so I can snuggle up to him. He's 4, and gorgeous and cuddly.
He wouldn't wake up

It's not really promoting the independence I want!

My ds is 4 and has slept in my bed every night of his life. I'm on my own so it was the easy option with feeding at first, but now I can't face the upset it would cause to get him to sleep all night in his own bed - and I need my sleep!

Snuggle away but know your boundaries - says she Hmm!!!

YANBU. I love sleeping with DD (4). But it's not so much fun if DH and DS (20 months. wriggly) are also there...gets slightly cramped.

Snuggle away, I say.

HairyGrotter · 09/11/2011 23:07

Snuggle vote here. There will be that day when they won't want to snuggle, take what you can now, savour it!

I can often be found doing the same thing...

worraliberty · 09/11/2011 23:09

YANBU to want to cuddle him but YABU to go and get him out of his bed at this time of night.

Buy a teddy...they eat and shit less too Grin

witherhills · 09/11/2011 23:10

Dh is away, and would rather cuddle DS anyway!

YANBU. They aren't little for long, time definitely goes far too quick. My DS is 13, nearly 14 and still gets in for a cuddle/to sleep with me.

I love every single moment of it.

DS still had a bottle till he was 7 due to the fact it was like his ruggy.
DS still got in the bath with me up until the same age.

And now I can proudly say he's an absolutely calm, relaxed, happy early teen.

Hissy · 09/11/2011 23:15

aw fuzzy, that sounds lovely!

My DS is 6. Nothing would wake him...

If he were not in a high sleeper, I'd regularly drag him into mine! I love the little monkey!

Signet2012 · 09/11/2011 23:19

All fine and dandy getting cuddles.... my mother used to do this to be every time my dad worked nights.

Roll on 20 years and Im now a 28 year old sleepwalker. Now, I cant be certain to blame this on her BUT I do!

Nothing like your partner getting to work, opening his tool box to find contents of wet washing machine in said toolbox..... and one broken washer at home having been on a boil wash with his tools in it :(

fuzzynavel · 09/11/2011 23:21

I'd rather cuddle my DS any day Witherhills, you go get that lovely little mite and snuggle.

pictish · 09/11/2011 23:24

Oh yanbu!
I'm rather naughty, because I love it when they're a wee bit ill....if only because I bring them into our bed so I can snuggle right up keep an eye on them.

RoaminGloamin · 09/11/2011 23:26

One of the best things in life is having your child snuggled in beside you. When DC5 (20 months) wakes up during the night I bring her in and she's the first thing I see in the morning.

They grow out of it - my teenagers freak when I tell the they used to want to cuddle in beside me at night :)

fuzzynavel · 09/11/2011 23:28

I used to sleepwalk Signet Im now probably too old to bother I somehow grew out of it.

My mum never let me in her bed so was probably trying to get in there in my sleep Sad

You made me chuckle Pictish.

Sillyoldelf · 09/11/2011 23:28

I agree, DS (3) just came in for a snuggle . Sharing sleep with your own little person is beautiful . My 6yr old had parents evening last night. When I was looking through her work I came across a picture she had drawn of us all snuggling in bed . I was so touched that it has made such an impression on her.

Signet2012 · 09/11/2011 23:30

Oh I hope I grow out of it - its embarrassing!!!

Im sure it was nothing to do with mother to be honest, I do like to blame her though!!

What was worse for me was my mum was quite a big lady, as was my dad, dad used to come home 5.30am slide into bed and when I woke I was stuck between two mountains and dad used to smell funny from being at work!

I dont have children yet only a niece who i refuse to buy a camp bed for who has to sleep with me when she sleeps as no bed here for her so I do get sly snuggles occasionally- cant beat it :)

MissVerinder · 09/11/2011 23:32

YANBU :)

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 09/11/2011 23:35

I sometimes just remove DD who is 7 from her bed....she never wakes up and now and then tis necassary. She's always thrilled when she wakes up in our bed! DD2 is 3 and can usually be found in our bed anyway.....DH works nights and the DDs like it when it's just me because DH is too big to share with.

fuzzynavel · 09/11/2011 23:37

Well, this has nothing to do with the thread Signet but I Just have to say my friend sleep eats! And no, not food of the yummy variety either, last week she opened a tin of cold tomatoes and slid them down with a nice swig of olive oil.
Shock

Sorry OP, just had to divulge that.

oreocrumbs · 09/11/2011 23:37

Im another child cuddle snatcher, DDs in my bed waiting for me! The best bit for me is when she wakes up and gently climbs on my back and kisses my head to wake me up! Or in the night if she stirrs and we have moved away from each other she pats the bed untill she locates me and climbs onboard for a cuddle without waking up!

SingingSands · 09/11/2011 23:40

I let the kids sleep in beside me when DH goes away with work. It's lovely. For about 10 mins. So I usually wait until the kids are sound asleep and then move them back into their own beds Grin

I couldn't sleep with DS in the bed. What with him & DH I'd have no room. But, oh, those early morning cuddles? To absolutely die for, I tell you.
Crap day at work? Cuddle with DS on the sofa with the slanket.
Rubbish weather? Cuddle with DS and the cats on the sofa with the slanket.

Sillyoldelf · 10/11/2011 00:00

What a lovely thread this is . No judgey pants in sight and a complete retreat from bitchy threads. It's so nice to talk about something that actually is taboo for a lot of parents ! I don't know any other mums that have ever co slept in rl . I feel like a freak !

fuzzynavel · 10/11/2011 00:14

Oh they do Silly, they just don't admit it Grin

youngblowfish · 10/11/2011 00:46

YANBU :)

Isn't it one of the wonderful things about parenthood? We moved our little 6 month old DS to his own room a couple of weeks ago, but when he wakes up for his 6am feed I relish bringing him to bed and then snoozing together. I love the feel of his skin and the smell of his head. He used to sleep with us a lot before we moved him into his own room because we all preferred it that way. DH and I specifically bought a king size bed so that we could all sleep comfortably :).

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 10/11/2011 00:52

It depends - you say 'it's not really promoting the independance I want'. If it has taken you a while to get him to sleep in his own bed then I don't think it's fair to take him into yours when it suits you. However, if he's always slept in his own bed and it wont create a problem - then snatch away!! :)
