Tesco and 2 life size men with machine guns advertising Call of Duty at the entrance - 18

I think this is unreasonable, what do other mums think? To walk into the local supermarket and face two huge men with machine guns (on cardboard). Obviously they are adverts but you can't miss them and I know that young children will stop, stare and ask loads of questions. This stuff doesn't need to be in their young faces grrrrrr . Are they in other Tesco's right at the front where you can not avoid them????

ps. the game is rated 18

Adverts are everywhere

atiredmum · 09/11/2011 21:50

Perhaps I am just noticing the violent ones more and more?

OP posts:
blackoutthesun · 09/11/2011 21:52

you're offended by a cardboard cutout?

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 21:53

over 18's shop there too.
the world does not revolve around under 18's

GypsyMoth · 09/11/2011 21:54

Did you want a MN campaign or something??

HippoPottyMouth · 09/11/2011 21:55

Meh.
If dd (3) asked about then I would just say they were soldiers.
If she was scared of them I would just say they were pretend and direct her to the toy / bakery section :)

MenopausalHaze · 09/11/2011 21:56

I call for an immediate boycott of everything. And Muller yoghurts. And everything. Now.

MrsStig · 09/11/2011 21:56

Well, I don't like such adverts on the side of school buses.

I wouldn't like to see an advert advertising 18+ pornography on the side of the school bus, either.

Or as I entered Tescos.

YANBU

won't someone think of the children!!!!!!!!!!!

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 09/11/2011 22:01

Yuck! Awful. But then I hate that violence is made the basis of entertainment in films and on tv too.

GypsyMoth · 09/11/2011 22:01

Mine used to see real life armed soldiers everyday on the garrison!! One was their dad!

atiredmum · 09/11/2011 22:03

Thanks Hippo Potty Mouth I will definitely say that to my little ones. I get that the supermarket has older shoppers. I just thought these were so large that they were unavoidable and perhaps a little distasteful to some shoppers and wondered if I was been precious....

No I don't think it's unreasonable to see life size cutouts.

COD must be the biggest selling 'shoot 'em up' game, and it's new edition is much anticipated.

And I am sure that some of the target buyers, the over 18's Wink, shop at Tescos.

CheerfulYank · 09/11/2011 22:04

I wouldn't allow DS to play the game or watch it being played, but I'm a bit meh about the ads.

troisgarcons · 09/11/2011 22:04

Life sized men are always a bonus IMHO Grin

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 09/11/2011 22:11

Even if they are cardboard, trois ?!

Easily pleased. Grin

atiredmum · 09/11/2011 22:13

Ilovetiffany. Total respect for your little ones dad. I think that there is a point that it would be valuable to learn about armed forces and armed police etc for my children etc and when the time is right and have an appreciation.

I don't shelter my kids from absolutely everything. DD saw the pics from the riots etc and we talked about it. Many mums on here are very good at turning things perhaps I don't think are quite right into something that can benefit. Different views / experiences are good :)

itsonlymrsDB. The guy was quite nice :)

Push 'em over Grin

I wouldn't like it as I hate guns but I'm not sure I would be moved to complain. I would possibly draw tache'n'tits on them with a marker pen, to make a stand.

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 09/11/2011 22:21

atiredmum

I'm off to Tescos tomorrow then, see if they have 'them' at my local store Grin

ItsonlymeMrsDB · 09/11/2011 22:26

See, COD really isn't the awful game people that haven't used it perceive it to be.

My DS (12) plays it, he has COD for the PSP, which was a 12 rating.

DH has a PS3 and has all of them, you can put restrictions on all the fighting and language etc, so DS plays them under supervision. I know they are still 18's, but they are not as bad as some shoot-em-ups.

Pan · 09/11/2011 22:26

YANBU - in part it's an advert for 'gun culture as entertainment', which is pretty shit. Time for a marker pen and some sharp scissors.

Sevenfold · 09/11/2011 22:34

PAN it is a game, no one gets really killed in it
