Is it just me or is it a real faff trying to work out the Tescos Christmas Clubcard exchange?

Sorry another Tescos thread.

I have my Tescos clubcard vouchers. I realise that I can double them up to spend on toys online. I have tried; I really have tried to double them up on line but I am none the wiser as to how to go about it.

I put a toy in basket, tried to double them up and said basket was empty. When I tried to look for toys to buy it came up with 2 bicycles and I don't want to buy a bike.HEEEEEEEELP! What do I do?

It's a pain in the arse. You need to go to the clubcard website, find the offer page, pick the department you want vouchers for, decide if you want vouchers for in store or online and pick how many you want. The you go through a checkout process and have to put in the numbers from your clubcard vouchers. Then they email you new voucher numbers that you use when you go through the checkout process for the toys.

If Tesco are reading this...... your system is CRAP!!!!!!

valiumredhead · 09/11/2011 20:36

It ALWAYS gives me a big headache that site!

Blatherskite · 09/11/2011 20:38

I was in Tesco on Tuesday and the staff were all totally flumoxed by the current doubling up scheme and basically bodging it as they went along by putting the doubled amount of vouchers through as something else entirely.

I've got loads of vouchers to spend but I'm not sure I can be bothered with the faff!

purplemurple · 09/11/2011 20:40

I agree, they send them out in random amounts. Would be much easier if it was like the boots card.

MeconiumHappens · 09/11/2011 20:47

its a mega faff, but i just bought £95 worth of maternity and baby lovely things for £5. A faff worth faffing for :)

LizzieMint73 · 09/11/2011 20:47

I'm getting to the stage where I want to ring them to ask them to cancel my clubcard. I shop there very rarely so get about £10 per year in points and only generally go when they send the quarterly mailing and then it is usually massively stressful - eg I tried to use the 'get 25 extra points when you buy vegetables' only to find their system doesn't consider lettuce to be a vegetable so they won't accept the coupon - things like that. I'd rather just completely avoid them altogether.

This time I had £10 which I wanted to double up for finest wine so I chose to do the double up online instead of queuingup at cust services but didn't realise it didn't happen straight away so ended up waiting nearly 2 hours for the coupon to come through. Then my printer wouldn't work and it took ages to print the coupon out (ok that wasn't tesco's fault). Then I went and bought the wine but didn't realise that the ones I'd picked were part of 2 separate '2 bottles for £12' offers so I didn't get the discount and ended up paying more than I'd expected. Grrrrr. They just seem to be out to trick the customer at every turn and I think it would be better just to stay away

howitis · 09/11/2011 20:57

Think the pictures of the bikes are giving you the option to select to spend instore or online...can't look at it right now as the site is down.

Horsemad · 09/11/2011 21:27

I totally agree!! I spent 2 hours exchanging and ordering and what not, then after I'd ordered, realised I'd exchanged more vouchers than I needed to -grrr.

So, I emailed them and asked if my remaining vouchers could be changed from one department to another and they won't let me.

Honestly, I know it's MY mistake, but would it kill them to change them???

fluffywhitekittens · 09/11/2011 21:30

I haven't found it too bad at all:)
Went to the club card page to exchange vouchers for double up value on toys online.
Gt the codes aprox half an hour later.
Ordered toys.
Used voucher codes.
Ta da :)

fusspot66 · 09/11/2011 21:39

It is confusing. You need to find the items you want and save them to your basket. then go on clubcard page and exchange correct amount of vouchers/points into e-vouchers for the appropriate department. Toys and bikes look like they only have 2 bikes for sale but there is a whole dept of toys to be found when you open that site. The e-vouchers are placed in a new and different basket during that transaction. Next day (or sooner) you spend your new double value e-vouchers on the items in your 1st basket.

fluffywhitekittens · 09/11/2011 21:47

I exchanged the vouchers before I put items in my basket.
I think some of you are making it harder than it is :)

welliesundermeballgoon · 09/11/2011 22:18

Can you part pay with the vouchers and then top up by card/cash?

SuePurblybilt · 09/11/2011 22:21

I didn't know though, until the power of MN last year helped me, that yo had to do all that nonsense. I tried to input the number on the voucher as a code number. I don't think I'm particularly thick - the sending off for new codes thing is a bit of a faff and not particularly well explained.

But I have it licked now Smile

hidinginthecupboard · 09/11/2011 22:24

wellies - yes you can top up with a card, online at least (did just that at the weekend) so I assume you can instore too.

frankie3 · 09/11/2011 22:34

I couldn't work this out at all ! How do you exchange the vouchers ? I couldn't find anywhere on the site where I could do this.

welliesundermeballgoon · 09/11/2011 22:46

Thanks Hiding Smile

toptramp · 09/11/2011 23:21

Once you get onto the bikes bit how do you find the other toys?

OP posts:
Towndon · 09/11/2011 23:25

YANBU. I got the two bicycles appearing too!

Also don't forget they'll charge postage at the end so allow for that with your vouchers when selecting items unless you're happy to add a bit by card.

fluffywhitekittens · 10/11/2011 21:59

In previous years they wouldn't accept vouchers towards postage.

Top tramp you should be able to go to the toys section of the direct website.

myBOYSareBONKERS · 11/11/2011 06:38

It took a while but I eventually figured it out.

However I exchanged £25 vouchers so I could buy the £49.99 Skylanders game.

The last £10 voucher wouldn't be accepted by the website. Reason being the remaining balance was £9.99 and my voucher was £10.

So I had to pay on my debit card the remaining amount which was very annoying.

LizzieMint73 · 11/11/2011 07:05

Bonkers I know it is too late this time but in order to avoid the situation you describe could you add something very cheap to the order to push it over £50 so you can use all your vouchers? Toy car, ping pong ball, colouring book, etc?

myBOYSareBONKERS · 11/11/2011 07:58

LizzieMint73 - I was in such a flap by the time I got to check-out I was just glad it was done!! I ordered a power rangers thingy for DS2 with the remaining balance which was good.

Next time though I will definitely remember - wonder why they wont allow the voucher to be more than the remaining balance.

welliesundermeballgoon · 16/11/2011 19:52

Does anyone know if you can use the exchange vouchers on half price items?

Thats what I'm worried about spotty, that I will exchange my vouchers and then not be able to use them as the item I want is half price!
