From their FB page

Our favourite fan suggestion of the week has been from Teresa who suggests a healthy alternative for cream in recipes. Why not mix flour with water and mix to thicken?

Thats crap isnt it. You cant make cream of tomato soup and instead of adding cream add home made glue?

Exactly squeaky!

Sidge · 09/11/2011 18:10

I use cornflour to thicken but use cream to add, um, creaminess Grin

valiumredhead · 09/11/2011 18:12

Anyone who watches Master chef knows you add cream to thicken Grin

You could use flour and milk instead of cream, maybe that's what they meant? Confused

Did you know that frijj milkshake is thickened with cornflour?

I'm confused about cornflour, BTW. Normal flour seems to thicken, as cornflour does. But cornflour has the weird jagged molecules so is a PITA to stir into things and tends to go lumpy unless you make it into a paste first. So why is it better than normal flour?

bertie because you can add cornflour at the end of cooking rather than thicken at the beginning when you fry off onions or meat.

You can also use Smash (if you have such a questionable thing in the cupboard!) or ground rice to thicken. Neither will add creaminess which can really only be achieved with the addition of errr -cream. Flour and water? That is just so yuk!

MissTinaTeaspoon · 09/11/2011 19:32

midnight thanks for that link Grin. I live for Crap Tips. I especially enjoyed the picture of Michael, 20 in his fetching pyjama shorts Grin poor bastard

HugosGoatee · 09/11/2011 19:37

I always use cornflour - a couple of teaspoons mixed with a wee bit of water thickens any sauce up nicely.

I use it for Carbonara and Mac Cheese too instead of doing the roux thing because it's a pita and I can't do it. I put cream in too

The trouble with being a freelance WAHM is that I spend hours of my day exchanging websites like this with my fellow freelancers. No wonder we are all skint.

Anniepops · 09/11/2011 20:14

Errr - does anyone know how to get Weetabix OUT of a sauce ....??? Blush

Sidge · 09/11/2011 20:14

It scares me that there is a section of society that thinks it's normal to decorate doors with cut outs from Chat.

Rather more than knowing there is a section of society that actually buys Chat.
