So as I said not really Aibu but need quick responses. Have posted in pregnancy but have had no responses.
Am just over 5 weeks pg and last week due to bleeding I had a scan and some swabs were taken. Went back today and told results came back and I have BV.

Have been given clyndamycin phosphate vaginal cream by the dr at epau but having read the leaflet it says it is not safe to use in 1st trimester as the is not enough evidence to say its safe.

So my question is can I use it if Prescribed by a doctor & what could happen if I leave it untreated till 2nd trimester?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry, dont know what BV is but think the best thing to do is talk to your midwife or GP.

Try calling NHS Direct for some more advice. If they tell you to take it further, you will feel more confident about the late phone call to the Out Of Hours surgery for your area, or demanding an emergency appointment from your GP's receptionist dragon

What's BV? poor you to be faced with this dilemma, hope somebody comes along who has experience of it to give you some advice.

Probably Bacterial Vaginosis? Nasty and you'll feel so much better when it's cleared up but do check with NHS Direct first for your own peace of mind.

Very few drugs will say they are safe in first trimester, or indeed any stage of pregnancy. If you think about it, this is because testing these drugs on pregnant women would be extremely unethical.

Untreated BV can be a cause of problems in later pregnancy in itself (second trimester miscarriage / prom). It is usual for BV to be treated with antibiotics in pregnancy. It is possible that you have been prescribed the antibiotic gel rather than the tablets due to your pregnancy.

Thank you for your replies, I really appreciate it. I contacted Nhs direct and began the treatment last night. Thanks again. Xxx
