to cancel Christmas ?

On Christmas day (with any luck) we will have a 1 week old DC. My parents are going to my DBros (miles away) DP isn't from UK and so has no family here anyway and they are all staying at home.

Neither of us will wont to cook. I don't want to be bothered with putting up tree and decorating etc. We are both never really bothered about getting presents from each other. We both aren't Christmasoholics.
We would still ship off presents for family and I'm sure they will send some down.

AIBU to cancel christmas?

I don't see why you can't spend the day in whatever way you see fit to be honest.

SootySweepandSue · 08/11/2011 20:04

What's the due date?

LineRunnerSaturnaliaCometh · 08/11/2011 20:05

My Poirot skills suggest around the 18th December, Sooty.

I don't think you are at all.
Isn't the idea of Christmas to spend it with the people you love most making nice memories?
Make things as relaxing and stress free as pos and get everything that you have to do done before your lo arrives.

Lovesbaking · 08/11/2011 20:06

With a one week old do wathever makes you happy. I wasn't very into Xmas because my family is abroad so my DP calls me Scrooge sometimes. But this year DS is 3.5 so I'm looking forward to decorating the house.

Last year we went to see my family on 20 Dec so I didn't put up any Xmas decorations. The year before we went to MIL and again I didn't do anything.

HippyDippyDooDaa · 08/11/2011 20:09

When my friend had a baby close to Xmas a couple of years ago, they went to M&S and treated themselves - in her words, "We're not eating anything that doesn't go ping when ready"! And, they sayed in their PJ's all day. I thought it was a lovely, relaxed way to spend the day.
Just enjoy your little one and whatever you do x

squeakytoy · 08/11/2011 20:09

You can still have a cosy christmas without it taking a lot of effort.

Stock up the fridge/freezer with lots of party nibble type food that you can just munch on without much preparation other than turning on the oven.

mumeeee · 08/11/2011 20:10

Just do whatever makes you happy at Christmas. We don't cook on Christmas day. Either have a Take away or go out and have done that since our DD's were little.

duckdodgers · 08/11/2011 20:11

Do whatever suits you both Smile

My DS3 was born on 14 December 3 years ago and I went as mad for Christmas as I usually do, (a) because I love it and (b) because I have 2 older children.

But my DH and I did it together and it was only us for Christmas Day and I loved it! And I loved the Midwife coming in with all the decorations and lights Grin

cunexttuesonline · 08/11/2011 20:21

I'd just get some really yummy (low effort) food and drink in from M&S as said above. Dress the baby in something very cute for your amusement!

AnotherEmptyNest · 08/11/2011 20:28

Have your Christmas as you want it. About 10 years ago, my husband and I were not seeing our children so didn't have to bother with big lunch. I just made and cooked some burgers with mashed potato and peas.

SootySweepandSue · 08/11/2011 20:29

I wouldn't plan much at all just concentrate on your new baby. I can't imagine I'd cope with Christmas and a newborn in the same week. You may need to get in some extra elves as you'll have your feet up Smile.

SootySweepandSue · 08/11/2011 20:30

Grin burgers and mashed potatoes and why not...

jillyfilly · 08/11/2011 20:59

I'm liking the M&S food idea hmmmm
Thanks
