Right, 20% voucher arrived as it does every year in time for dd3s birthday. having fallen for this before, i checked that what i wanted was full price (voucher doesnt apply if there is already another discount).

off i went to shop to buy the £35 dolls pram that she has played with everytime we have been in there for the last 6 months. So £28 surely?

No, actually not. The pram needs to be ordered. OK, not a problem. There is a £4.99 delivery charge to have it delivered to home.. Again, not a problem, I'll have it delivered to the shop and pick up.

ELC don't do this. So, AIBU in thinking that the price should be marked at £39.99 including delivery, rather than the £35 that is on it.

The assistant helpfully told me that if i spent £50 after discount the delivery charge would be waived......

The discount should, unless otherwise stated, be on the total cost.

aquafunf · 08/11/2011 18:53

The compulsory delivery charge, which is mentioned nowhere (least of all the swinging ticket on the sodding pram that all the children push up and down) wipes out all but £2.01 of the discount. I really think that they should just show the true price, given that you can't actually buy it for the price shown.

they charge on all orders under £50, always have done

IneedAbetterNickname · 08/11/2011 19:19

Maybe some ELC stores do stock it, and then people would complain that it is cheaper elsewhere.

bumpybecky · 08/11/2011 19:19

how far is the store? can you order something extra to make total up to £50 then take it back to the store for a refund

Sirzy · 08/11/2011 19:19

I would never expect a voucher to cover delivery, it always comes off the product price.

happywheezer · 08/11/2011 19:19

Perhaps someone somewhere should have a list of crap companies to buy from.

Hulababy · 08/11/2011 19:21

Why does the store not stock it? Do you have another store close by you could go to instead?

I have never known any discount voucher include delivery tbh. ELC are not unusual in this.

AppleAndBlackberry · 08/11/2011 19:28

I had this problem but they should be able to tell you which other nearby stores stock it if that helps at all.

pregnantpause · 08/11/2011 19:30

Yabu- elc is failing as it is- most of their stores are lined up for closure with many already shut. They may have stocked the pram previously, but their stock is not being renewed, and repricing to include delivery is hardly going to sell more prams is it?
Then Again i understand that Its Not nice of them to effectively slap a stealth charge on your purchase.

As Christmas is coming, I would just order enough to make up the £50, get 20% off that too, and free delivery. You're making a big deal out of nothing.

halcyondays · 09/11/2011 11:22

Yabu, vouchers usually don't cover delivery. No, the price shouldn't be marked at £39.99, if there is a delivery charge, it is always added on top. Personally, I would just order something else to put away for Christmas to make the order up to £50.

Yes, Our ELC has closed and moved across the road into a Mothercare where it has part of the floor.

IneedAbetterNickname · 09/11/2011 17:01

Hmm AnotherEmptyNest In wonder if you are local to me? That's exactly what ours has done, which makes me :( as it has been in it's previous place as long as I can remember!

Acceptableintheeighties · 09/11/2011 17:05

Yanbu, it bugs me that a lot of stores do this, price an item at xxx price but never hold the stock at the stores so you have to have it delivered and have to pay a delivery charge on top.

Just charge yyy and say there is no extra delivery charge.

Have just had this with a carpet store. £25 to have my carpet delivered as,obviously, they can't stock thousands of rolls in the stock room so I am not able to save this fee by picking up myself. Just incorporate into the product price!
