To think I'm never going to get my DD do a wee

Need to get my DD 21months to do a wee for a sample. This is for a diabetes test. We have now had no nappy on again and I've either missed or she has waited to I have put for a nap in a nappy to do a wee.

She will not sit on a potty. I've have been playing putting her doll on it but she just chucks it a aside. She screams if I try and sit her on it.

AIBU to think I'm never going to get this sample.

instead of a nappy tie a muslin cloth around her, a clean one or a pair or clean knickers and then when she wees in it, which she will (give her plenty to drink) just wring the wee out like you would wiht a damp cloth! thats what i did when ds1 was a similar age Grin

I'll try that been on sample collection for 2 days now. Sad

its a pita as disposable nappies are so absorbant, if she wants a nappy on your could try a cloth one with a booster or not and again do the wring it out thing?

good luck :)

Go back to the GP and ask him to give you the proper wee collection thingy. You stick it on, it can go under a nappy.

Although if she's diabetic she would be going downhill fairly rapidly so keep an eye out for any smell of pear drops or similar. If you detect them, get her to a&e pronto as they're a sign of ketones which can be fatal if not treated.

Good luck!

GP wants to do a urine test as she is drinking non stop eats All the time and her wee is that strong it burns her. So need to get this test done.

Right well the GP could do a blood test instead/as well while waiting for urine to test - small finger prick, results in less than 10 seconds. Anything over 8mmol/l would be considered too high. If she's diabetic then more likely the result would be in the teens or higher.

If you don't have any luck with the sample-getting, turn up at A&E with the list of symptoms. FWIW I'm T1 diabetic and on diagnosis I had a UTI, had lost weight, was drinking pints and pints more than normal, craving sweets, and weeing loads (it's the body's way of getting rid of excess sugar). But I was older than your DD and able to verbalise what was going on.

After a full day of having a nappy off I did manage to get a sample. Also I was making tea when she come in with a big lump in her hand at first thought it was chocolate but it wasn't Blush

So she has now gone to bed and will try the cloth thing in the morning.

She would eat all day if I let her even though she is a little dot. She screams for juice. She sleeps all night I have to wake her in the morning and she has can have 3 hours in afternoon if we let her. She get cranky and crouches and says ouch when she pee's. So every thing is pointing to diabetes say my HV and GP.

She is under a pedi any way due to a cleft in her larynx. But next appointment is not until next month. If I can not get a sample tomorrow I will go and get a prick tester myself.

I did ask the GP to do one but she said that it would not give a accurate reading.

Just wish me luck hope to god it is not diabetes for her sake.

If it is, you might want to either check out www.diabetessupport.co.uk or the Children with Diabetes mailing list. And JDRF and/or Diabetes UK.

Fingers crossed for your DD that it's not.
