Shamefully (but also, I feel, justifiably) starting to feel like a 14 year old with regards to my driving test.
First time - failed for being 10 miles over speed limit (this was on the way to a sliproad to a dual carriageway, so there was a logic to it, but I guess fair cop)
2nd - forgot to check blind spot when changing lanes (as do most of the people I take rides with)
3rd - ok, my bad - parent was very sick - mind wasn't on the road - did appallingly
4th time - 'took left corners too widely'. At this point, my very sane, lovely driving instructor started to sit in the back with me to find out what was going on. Yeah, I know it's weird, but I like it. He felt that was a dubious call and he is a hard arse.
5th time - clipped a corner. Fair cop, but I was hyped up due to 1-4
6th time - 'pulled out too quickly, forcing a driver on main road to slow down' - hardarse instructor felt this was dubious again.
Now I'm not denying there's a lot of my fault in the above catalogue of woe. Obviously you have to be safe. However, the driving test is completely unrealistic because in real life every driver makes a small mistake on every drive. it's a money making machine.
My instructor has said there's no point in contesting, because it's a closed shop.
Blame me and flame me, though please don't tell me 'yes but you've got to be safe' - I know that. That isn't what I'm talking about.

Well done.

I was going to say, I have a friend who is a driving examiner, she says there is no pressure to fail people ad most test centres are over subscribed as it is. if anything they like to pass if possible, it is less paperwork. BUT the thing that keeps them awake on a night it the thought of passing someone who wasn't really ready, and who then goes out and has or causes a serious accident.

Happy driving! - you obviously look safe now!

pigletmania · 08/11/2011 18:03

Well done, congratulations Grin

pigletmania · 08/11/2011 18:05

Well ifailed have you seen the programme, dangerous drivers on channel 5 at the moment, its full of shit drivers who have passed their test. Some should never have passed in the first place, they are god awful.

MrsUnassumingTroll · 08/11/2011 18:08

clever you.

jojane · 08/11/2011 20:14

I have my 2nd test tomorrow. I failed my first with 1 minor because I did turn in the road in 9 instead of 5! I hit a dip, thought I had hit the kerb and panicked and went forward at which stage there was no chance of completeing it

fit2drop · 08/11/2011 20:34

jojane one minor does not make a fail, candidates are allowed minor faults up to 15 but with no serious or dangerous ones, to secure a pass .

jojane · 08/11/2011 20:58

I know, I had 1 minor and 1 major (doing turn in too many turns). Examinmer was very apologetic that she had to fail me.

MintAero · 09/11/2011 09:39

TOLD YOU YOU COULD DO IT!!!

Thanks Wine

Failed :-( general driving was ok. Got 6 minors and failed on paralell park coz hit the kerb. Really hope o get reverse round a corner next time. Did an emergancy stop which was fine. So annoyed, rebooked for nov 22nd

PizzaSlut · 09/11/2011 20:16

Well done you, knew it was a lucky omen for your test. Great feeling and 3 years later I still love jangling my car keys knowing I conquered my fear and done it.

Sorry it wasn't your day Jojane.

HairyBeaver · 09/11/2011 20:18

Jojane my next test is also on 22nd November!!

We can be pass buddies together!! Grin

jojane · 09/11/2011 22:17

Here's hoping hairybeaver - I can't afford to keep retaking test. Its frustrating as I know I can drive about fine and manourves are ok when I'm not under test pressure and nervous.

isithometimeyet · 17/11/2011 20:52

Jojane and Beaver - don't give up! I thought about giving up many times (hence this thread) and am so glad I didn't. Even when it seems impossible - you will get there, you just have to believe it.
