Right I am expecting my 3rd baby Smile, it will be my partner's first.

Recently we have been discussing names and so far partner's suggestions have been Chelsea or Zara for a girl and Harley or Blade for a boy !!!!

Obviously mumsnet immediately vetoed the chavvy names as unsuitable so partner is now re-thinking.

When I suggested a lovely classic name partner's response was

'that's nice but we should change the spelling so it's more unigue' Shock

AIBU to force my partner to read EVERY SINGLE thread ever posted on mumsnet and learn the error of their uncouth ways or should I just beat her with a stick instead? Grin Wink

Beating with sticks is never right, but reading all those mumsnet threads will be far more painful- I say make her do it, for the spelling suggestion alone.

MrsTwinks · 07/11/2011 15:40

ask him how he would feel about constantly having to spell out his name. To Everyone who ever asked him

then beat him with a stick Wink

You do know its time for us all to tell her to escape you at her first given opportunity Grin

OH DEAR GOD!

Partner is reading my AIBU post and has just told me I spelt Chelsea wrong and that it should be CHELSIE Shock

We need to implement a chav test for before we create children with these people and like me realise the truth too late.

Question 1 - Fruit shoot - Good or bad?

worraliberty · 07/11/2011 15:43

Nah it's Chelsey innit? Grin

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 15:45

Lol Fuzzy

Don't worry DP is sitting here watching responses with shock and amazement as she still can't quite work out why I PMSL at the name suggestions.

I posted the name Chelsea in the baby name section and DP says she had no idea that the name was seen as chavy.

I am starting to think that DP may be a secret chav and not be aware of it.

What I want to know, Sacre, is how the hell she got to DP status???

Your vetting process is lacking, lacking I tell ya!

usualsuspect · 07/11/2011 18:01

I hate the word chav ,its horrible

mathanxiety · 07/11/2011 18:05

I am also eating a pot noodle right now!

But I do know how you feel about names. However, I would have thought Zara wasn't that bad.

mumofthreekids · 07/11/2011 18:15

A friend of mine called his son George. But - wait for it - spelt Jorge! (They have no Spanish connections btw.) So he doesn't even get the benefit of an unusual name (ie not having 3 other kids in your class with the same name) - and will spend the rest of his life saying 'no no, it's J-O-...'.

Don't do it OP!

SacreLao · 07/11/2011 19:47

Chipping I honestly don't know, I must have had a little too much wine that day. Plus this nonsense with the awful taste in names has only just been discovered.

She does have her good points and makes a great cup of tea so she will be given a verbal warning and kept on close watch for now.

Thankfully she seems to have seen the problem now and is coming up with slightly less awful suggestions. Plus I get out of school runs for the whole week thanks to mumsnet confirming that Chelsea is not suitable.

Mathanxiety The name Zara makes me think of a girl I used to know at school who was an absolute bitch. Sadly I seem to know a lot of not very nice people so have been put off loads names.

Mumof three That is truely awful! I volunteer in a school and they have a girl named Lexxie, makes my eyes bleed every time I read it.

I am definately putting my foot down on names!
