I had a phonecall from o2 (which I have had before-they have rung me and I've altered my package) on Wednesday seeing if they could make any improvements. I was happy with my package, but she seemed keen to get other household members onto o2. The lady said they were offering an iphone 3G (same as mine) for no cost, 100 thingys for data, 50 minutes and unlimited text for £13.50 a month (which is the same deal as I'm on now as I've had the phone for ages). I thought this sounded brill and said I'd talk to my husband and she was going to phone me back this morning. I hadn't heard back by lunchtime, so I rang o2. He laughed and said they don't have any offers that good! He advised that I changed my password in case it was dodgy, which I did.

The 0800 number has just rung me again and said she's from o2 Manchester. I explained what o2 had said and she says they only phone existing customers and give better deals. When I said I was surprised o2 hadn't just told me that, she said she was too.

Then she said that if I wanted to go ahead with the deal, they would give me £50 M+S vouchers and £20 Next vouchers. Just wanted me to give my card number and they would take £1.01 and then it would all be activated.

Sounds like a load of old tosh to me-I told her I was going to research it and she's ringing me back tomorrow.

I've had calls in the past from o2 though which have given me great offers and reductions in my bill. Is this real or not!?

That sounds very dodgy to me. O2's call centre is based in Cardiff, not Manchester. Don't agree to anything if they called you. Call o2 back yourself and speak to them about it.

controlpantsandgladrags · 07/11/2011 13:32

sorry posted too soon! When she phoned did she ask you to verify your password etc? IME O2 always do this to confirm that you are the account holder.

Appuskidu · 07/11/2011 13:35

Yes, she did which was just like o2 have done previously.

I am very confused!

it may be a reseller rather than O2 direct. I get calls from a company called 3Network who purport to be from 3 but they are not, they just sell their products, along with other phone companies products. To check out if it is a valid offer go so somewhere like moneysupermarket and check out the phone deals. If it's valid it should be there.

I saw a deal through E2Save with 3, but 3 themselves weren't doing it.

Appuskidu · 07/11/2011 13:42

She told me that they were able to offer better deals as they were dealing directly with existing customers, so maybe they wouldn't be online anyway?

All sounds really odd and I'm cross as it sounded like a good deal!

Appuskidu · 07/11/2011 13:59

@o2 is o2 customer relations, I've asked them to take a look at this, will let you know if they respond

Appuskidu · 07/11/2011 14:02

Brilliant, thank you.

I just can't work out if it's a complete scam to get my bank details or not! What would happen though-could they siphon of nundreds of punds if they have my account number? Or would the £13.50 direct debit go to them and I'd never receive the phone?

My number must have been given out by o2 as I don't give the number out readily. It's plausible that they can give out good offers to existing customers, but if it's legitimate then o2 customer services would have knows of their existance!?

Well, I presume it must be dodgy.

Does anyone know of the cheapest iphone 3G on contract then if that's a no-go!!
