ok, have a very good friend. She has a lot of food issues, is very, very picky about food to the point where it is impossible to cook for her. Anyway, every time she comes to my house if I offer her a tea or coffee she insists on making it which really annoys me! it makes me feel like the way I make it isn't good enough (nobody else has ever complained!).

She helps herself to tea and coffee in my house which I don't mind but am a bit insulted that she won't let me make it for her.

This evening as an experiment I just handed her a tea when she walked in and later on she wanted another so I jumped up and said I'd make it, I said I liked making tea in my house for visitors. She acted like I'd been really defensive but am I being ridiculous - would this annoy you?

Sounds like she has phobia/s? Has she ever opened up to you about it? ds2 has a button phobia which makes him not want to eat if he can see them. Very hard to understand?

I've been married for 10 years and DH still can't make coffee how I like it, neither can my sister who has known me all my life and I was a very young coffee drinker. My best friend makes perfect coffee although she only drinks tea. I am people are fussy about their tea and coffee and its such a simple thing to do it yourself.

Nobody seems to like my tea and it does make me feel a bit sad like I'm not a good host. They don't say so but a lot seems to get left. I've tried making it stronger (as I like mine quite weak) and still people don't like it. I think I would be a bit offended if someone always made their own tea at my house. So even though it's a v small think I'd say YANBU.

I usually offer to make the first cup then any more after that you help yourselves....i dont drink tea or coffe so no idea whether i'm making it to everyones liking

If shes happy to make it then let her get on with it. No point getting your knickers in a twist Smile

I'm of the 'I'll make my own thanks' camp.

It's really hard to describe to someone how your tea should be (if they have it like treacle, saying strong-ish will get you David Dickinson tea, if they're a baby tea person then strong-ish will still be piss water.)

I generally let someone make tea for me once then do it myself in future if it's not 'right'.
If a host insisted on making me tea when I'd made it clear I'd prefer to make it myself then I wouldn't drink tea there in future, better no tea than crap tea (and I'd think they were a bit rude to boot.)

How English is this thread by the way? More custard creams anyone? Grin
