Because i felt really guilty, ended up crying (tired and emotional after a tough 24 hours of stress and virtually no sleep). She was fine about it btw and said she doesnt mind about things like that and she didnt take offence.

She had told him twice to stop kicking the ball at the parents, he ignored her and she moved off for something else. I was watching the match and then bam was hit right in the face and i turned round to them and shouted 'who did that' and they all grassed up this boy and i asked him why he did it, he looked at his mum and i said 'dont look at your mum, shes already told you twice, what you did was naughty', he went off back to play.

I told the mum and she was fine, but then i got all upset and apologised and said it wasnt my place Sad. i still feel so awful though.

YABU for feeling upset about this! You were shocked by being hit in the face, yet you still managed to tell him off in a restrained way. Now if you'd screamed something like, "I'm going to fing kill you, you little bard!", that would be different!

bigTillyMint · 06/11/2011 19:25

YANBU. It takes a whole community to raise a child.

omnishambles · 06/11/2011 19:26

Bloody hell I do it all the time. Sometimes I wait for kids to swear on buses just so that I can turn round and tell them off. [slight exaggeration obviously]

comedycentral · 06/11/2011 19:34

He hit you in the face with a ball, accident or not, child or not it WAS your place to tell him off IMO.

Am very surprised by this thread, i thought i was out of order by shouting at him!

You have been reading too much of 'my DC, my rules', mosschops! 'It takes a village..........' is a much better one. Out of your own home the first doesn't apply.

DogsBestFriend · 06/11/2011 22:50

I'm with Hardgoing. I'd have been mortified too if I were the mum and would have backed you up 100%. You did nothing wrong at all.

ChaoticAngel · 06/11/2011 23:27

YANBU I'm another one who would have backed you up if it had been my child.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 06/11/2011 23:30

YABU

...to call that 'shouted' & to have given it another thought. He was lucky it wasn't accompanied by a clip around the ear Grin

QuintessentialShadow · 06/11/2011 23:32

Your face, your place. Hope he learnt to be more careful.

MrsJasonBourne · 06/11/2011 23:39

If I'd have been in your position I'd have done the same. And he is lucky he wasn't sent off the pitch, was there a ref or anyone in charge? In my school days anything like that would have resulted in a bellowing 'OFF!!!' from the sports teacher!
