Don't know either but my kids love it

Because the Lego games are great. The creators have very cleverly chosen a whole set of films designed to appeal to the parents too (Star Wars, Indiana Jones .. Harry Potter) and then made some really clever, fun games with no real death or violence and loads of loads of silly bits they just put in because they could.

There are lots of themed tie-in toys, and have been for quite some time.

I don't really see what is hard to understand about this widespread marketing ploy, especially as it's hardly new.

zeno · 06/11/2011 12:47

Because when you shoot something in a lego game it tumbles apart into a little pile of bricks with clickety click noises. No blood and guts. And because make noises that are like talking but use no words - it's all in the intonation - which makes it soothing and funny much in the same way as the Clangers. And, because lego Leia in her golden bikini scowling at Han is hilarious.

My eldest stepson is six and I swear that 90% of conversations he starts are about Lego Starwars. I have never witnessed obsession like it. DP and I are starting to develop a nervous twitch when we think it's about to get mentioned and a couple of weekends ago DP struck a deal with him that if he didn't mention it for two hours he'd get to play on the Xbox game for twice as long as usual.

If they release a storybook series I think I'll actually cry. Bedtime stories are one of the few places blessedly free from the damn thing.

puzzlesum · 06/11/2011 12:56

.

Fortunately these aren't stories Grin

YANBU.

I got over my confusion back with Indiana Jones lego. I still don't get it, but I have finally made peace with the fact that my ds loves it as much as he loves me, and it is part of our life.

Stinkyfeet · 06/11/2011 13:03

I have frequently had to read from the Lego Visual Dictionary at bedtime - I can barely contain my joy at that one Hmm

heleninahandcart · 06/11/2011 13:04

YABU its wonderful and I insist my DS insists we keep it forever.

bruffin · 06/11/2011 13:14

The lego wii games are brilliant. Just waiting for my next fix when Harry Potter 5-7 comes out in the next few weeks.

jenfraggle · 06/11/2011 13:28

I've got Harry Potter, Indiana Jones 1, Batman, Star Wars and Pirates. They are all for me and are brilliant. DH enjoys playing them too. All are for the PS3 apart from Star Wars which is the DS version and PS3 is so much better. Can't wait for the next Harry Potter to come out.

OliviaMumsnet · 06/11/2011 13:53

ROFL at "I'll get a tray, fuck it!"

puzzlesum · 08/11/2011 12:43

Yup, have got the Harry Potter game on pre-order, yay!

The Eddie Izzard clip is brilliant.

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 08/11/2011 14:01

I was going to suggest putting Lego Starwars into YouTube. I absolutely adore 'death star canteen' it makes me giggle every time! 'Jeff Vader' creases me up! Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 08/11/2011 14:07

((((Lego)))))
(((((Star Wars))))))
(((((Eddie Izzard))))))
combine all three and the world is a better place

Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 08/11/2011 14:45
