Ok, the fireworks were great but there are no bonfires round here and we were the only people in a huge crowd who had sparklers!

When I was younger we used to cycle from bonfire to bonfire on different village greens etc. Those were the days!

Anyone else?

Eeeh, when I were a lass...

The kids would collect wood for the "bommies" for weeks.

They were held on the streets, on wasteland.

Bangers and jumping jacks were still legal then, and the big boys threw them at us.

We threw potatoes into the embers, ate treacle toffee. They came out blackened, were drenched in salt to give a burn and an after-sting.
One year the vet's gave out meat and potato pies at a "posh" bommie.

No 5th November here in Oz, unfortunately, although the four possums who live in my garden might like that. On the other hand DD has just rung to say she's going to the beach this arvo.
