Christmas card designs? I would prefer more illustrations depicting something to do with baby Jesus even if it's just three kings or shepherds or a star or the word 'Noel' or a group of people singing carols outside a door (we don't get that any more either). I would like more nativity scenes.

These days, all we see thrust at us are robins, trees with presents under them, snow scenes, Santa Clauses, one tree bauble hanging from nothing or one of those 'cute' bears. Or worst, for me, is just Season's Greetings on the front of a card anmd nothing else.

Christmas is called that because it is about Jesus's birth and it actually means Christ's Mass. Is this country being too politically correct in case appropriate cards 'offend' people?

You could always make your own. :)

teacoupons · 05/11/2011 14:32

Christmas has evolved to mean more than a religious holiday now and the masses, even if vaguely religious still seem to be buying the sparkly ones.

Make your own. I send out holiday cards and celebrate Christmas but without the religious connotations.

AnotherEmptyNest · 05/11/2011 14:46

I haven't the time or ability or patience to make my own. Anyway, I like to send too many to make them myself.

There are loads of nativity ones around! I got some this morning in Tesco.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2011 14:48

Cards sold through religious organisations tend to have more religious imagery. You could see if your local church or Salvation Army is selling them? Would also mean you're giving money to the church fund/a charity rather than a big business.

Or just don't send any - horrible things whatever the pattern, if you want to stay in touch write me a letter, don't send me some crappy expensive card that'll just go in the recycling...

SauvignonBlanche · 05/11/2011 17:04

I feel your pain OP, I'm no religious maniac but really struggle to find Christmas cards I like.
I feel like a mad old reactionary going to loads of different shops, I always bought them from Oxfam but for the last couple of years they didn't have any inexpensive Nativity ones either. Sad

Trills · 05/11/2011 17:07

YABU because there are plenty of religious cards around if you do more than just look in the Christmas aisle in Tesco.

Also, it's only just November.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 05/11/2011 17:17

Try charity jobs, Churches often sell Christmas cards, traidcraft and someone suggested and perhaps other charities.

Ihavewelliesbutitssunny · 05/11/2011 17:21

sorry obviously meant charity shops

I was just thinking that there is a distinct lack of cards for people who don't celebrate Christmas, but celebrate Yule (or Eid or Diwali - yes, I know they're not all at the same time). Given that we now live in a multi-cultural society we really should cater for all - Christmas cards (religious themed and more secular), as well as those for other occasions of importance in other faiths.

But having said that, I do generally tend to make my own anyway :)

slavetofilofax · 05/11/2011 18:37

I'd be happy with Nativity Cards if they weren't all so old fashioned looking and all various shades of brown. I like cards to be more colourful.

YABU because there are lots of cards with the Nativity on them, they just tend not to be very attractive.
