to find it sad that there is not more 'non-themed' wrapping paper in the shops?

other than single sheets of organic lentil dyed expensive paper?

have loads of leftover christmas paper which is inappropiate for a (children's) birthday present. and if I buy a roll of birthday paper (which comes mostly in boy's girl's designs) I will have the same problem.

aibu to just want a big roll of cheap(ish) unseasonal paper that I can use all year round for all occasions?

eBay often has plain rolls of wrapping paper.

luckylavender · 05/11/2011 13:05

Clintons has good non themed inexpensive wrapping paper

BatmanLovesRobin · 05/11/2011 13:05

I've still got a couple of rolls of Tesco Value plain red Xmas paper from last year. i'd imagine they'll stock it again this year.

BertieBotts · 05/11/2011 13:06

I've seen loads in cheap card shops. Have currently got some with multicoloured squares.

WHSmith also do large rolls in neutral themes, probably not at this time of year though (or maybe if you're quick!)

SummerRain · 05/11/2011 13:08

Tesco have rolls of metallic plain coloured paper atm. I got pink, green and blue yesterday which would be fine for birthdays

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 05/11/2011 13:10

Sainsburys is good, Ikea is brilliant.

mousyfledermaus · 05/11/2011 13:11

oh, totally forgot about ikea,
feel a shopping trip coming up to have meatballs and dime cake

I can get non-themed wrapping paper ok but I can't find birthday cards suitable for any male over 10. Everything has bottles of wine, vintage cars or yachts on it.

soaccidentprone · 05/11/2011 13:15

Try Oxfam - they have rolls of plain wrapping paper in gold, silver, red which can be used all year round.

They also sell lovely cards, as do lots of other charity shops.

bigTillyMint · 05/11/2011 13:16

Was just going to say ikea, but WTWTA beat me to itSmile

moanymandy · 05/11/2011 13:18

I got a box of 4 rolls plus Ribbon from asda. Suitable for any age boy/girl.

BartletForAmerica · 05/11/2011 13:29

Ocado do metallic wrapping paper as well. I get it so I can use it all year too.

Flisspaps · 05/11/2011 13:38

Brown paper, with cheap colourful bows/tags/ribbons?

trixymalixy · 05/11/2011 13:47

There's loads in the shops! I just buy a big roll of plain red, gold or silver and use it for everything

I am popping to Sainsburys tonight to stock up on nappies and now plain wrapping paper because you have a point OP.

Limited you need to try Moonpig for a better selection of non yachts cards.

BarkisIsWillin · 05/11/2011 14:07

It's also hard to find decent bottle bags - the metallic ones look a bit tacky at this stage, and I also like to buy non-Christmassy ones so they can be recycled all year

LIZS · 05/11/2011 14:16

I buy stripey or spotty paper on rolls in Sainsbury's and Morrisons

trixymalixy · 05/11/2011 14:19

Pound shops are brilliant for bottle bags and other gift bags. I suspect they will be mostly Christmassy at the moment, but the rest of the year the ones near me have a great selection.

worraliberty · 05/11/2011 14:21

I buy big rolls of shiny silver paper from the market here...good for everything.

limitedperiodonly · 05/11/2011 14:21

Really cheshire? I'll look then. I'd never have considered Moonpig because their adverts drive me crackers. Moooonpiiiiig Dot Com is stuck in my head now.

limitedperiodonly · 05/11/2011 14:28

Oh and I cut a voucher last week from the Daily Mail which gave £5 off £15 or more spent in WH Smiths.

Loaded up with plain wrapping paper, struggled to carry it to the till and queued for ages only to be told the voucher wasn't valid at station outlets.

Bastard WH Smiths. I'd even made a special journey. At least the checkout woman had the grace to take the rolls off me instead of making me put them back.

I have ranted about this before but it still rankles.

EduStudent · 05/11/2011 17:56

Actually, Primark have a decentish range of wrapping paper. I've got some navy and white polka dot at the moment. About £1 for 5m or so and reasonable-ish quality.

EduStudent · 05/11/2011 17:58

Also, The Works can be quite good for gift/bottle bags, though it's a bit hit and miss.

Pixel · 05/11/2011 18:37

I can't say I've ever had a problem buying non-themed wrapping paper! Will agree that a big multi-purpose roll would be good though. I usually end up with odds and ends of various coloured paper because it only comes in small rolls or sheets and I never want to throw away the spare bits in case they come in useful.
