AIBU to feel disappointed that no-one has enquired how my dd is after her head injury?

Dd sustained a head injury at the beginning of the week, during a PE lesson at school.

She has been ill with concussion, and the GP says she will have to rest for at least another week.

I have left 2 messages (as per school policy) to explain her absence.

Maybe they are too busy, but it would have been nice if someone had just picked up the phone to see how she is. Sad

A call should have gone home.

I got a message from reception saying that a kid in my form had fallen and injured himself on his way home from school when it was snowing. Took 2 minutes out of my day to make sure he was ok.

Sadly, the concept of pastoral care is lost in some institutions.

YANBU! Your dd injured herself in their care. Whether or not it is their fault is irrelevant, a phone call to ask how she is, is common courtesy. She is not just another sick child.

My dd broke her ankle recently whilst at gymnastics. I don't blame them- goes with the territory but I am a bit peeved that they couldn't be bothered to pick the phone up and ask how she is after they sent her home with an ankle the size of a football. Good manners in my opinion. I wouldn't expect a phone call if she was ill, or had broken her ankle at school. However, when someone is entrusted with the care of your child and all doesn't go according to plan, then the very least you would expect is a polite phone call or a get well soon wish!

I really don't understand people saying school should phone to see how she is when they know how she is...

YANBU given she is off due to an accident at school.

I hope she is OK, concussion requiring that much rest is beyond your normal bump to the head Sad

Yes, technically the school knows how the child is doing as mum has rung to tell them as per the absence policy. This situation isn't like a child being off with a cold. I don't think it will kill the HT or class teacher to ring up and have a proper chat about how the child is doing. It would show that they cared.

I am the head first aider at my secondary school, and I always follow up on major/big injuries that happen at school.

I think our parents appreciate knowing that their children are more than just part of my job.

In that case given it happened in PE, YANBU .
