To be seething about Starbucks prices

I have a starbucks card which means I get extra shots and syrup and cream for free. So if I was was to order a vanilla latte with whip it will only cost me £2.15 instead of £2.90 (35p syrup and 40p cream). Now bring on the festive gingerbread latte, which is latte with syrup and whip. So surely this should cost £2.90. But oh no they charge £2.95 and there is no reduction when you pay with your starbucks card and also there is no reduction when you order it without whip! I am very annoyed and would refuse to buy them, if only they didn't taste so good!!

I think Starbucks is overpriced and their coffee is horrible.
Rip off and yukky too!!!

MenopausalHaze · 04/11/2011 10:47

Get yourself outside Sharrie and clear that half crazed head of yours!

wannaBe · 04/11/2011 10:47

3 quid for a cup of coffee? Shock

mind you I was equally Shock when I went into costa and bought two penini's and two bottles of water and it cost £13! no wonder it's called costa - it costa a fucking fortune!

manicbmc · 04/11/2011 10:50

Go to Cafe Nero - slightly cheaper and they do the best paninis. Plus the one I frequent plays soothing jazz - very relaxing.

FredFredGeorge · 04/11/2011 10:53

Erm - if it's the same as what you get for 2.15 why not carry on paying 2.15 (ie order your latte with free whip and free gingerbread syrup) and then you'll be fine. It's not starbucks fault if you don't order it sensibly.

TandB · 04/11/2011 10:53

Sharrie - I saw that and sniggered a lot. She got very high-pitched and worked up if I remember rightly!

Sorry, gingerbread in coffee is just wrong.

snitchrose168 · 04/11/2011 10:58

But that's the point fredfred, you can't do that! Because it's a festive drink, only available at xmas, it comes as a package. The price isn't reduced if you order no cream and the card doesn't register it as an ordinary latte with extras. It sees it as a drink in itself.

MenopausalHaze · 04/11/2011 10:59

Actually MrsSnow - anything except coffee in coffee is wrong - very wrong. With the possible exception of milk. I just don't understand this re-flavouring of coffee. Coffee is coffee - or it should be!

bruffin · 04/11/2011 11:01

Gingerbread Latte is brilliant for a hangoverGrin

snitchrose168 · 04/11/2011 11:04

Good lordy, is that what it costs for a drink in Starbucks?????

I was once charged £2.95 for a single almond croissant in a coffee shop. Was on my way into the office and feeling harassed so I paid, but was Shock and am still quite Angry about it more than 3 years later...

I am not ready to start frequenting Starbucks, clearly.

valiumredhead · 04/11/2011 11:13

What is HIGNFY ?

They have to charge that much - heating, lighting, staff, and they have to actually make a profit.

Don't go there if it makes you seethe!

SalVadorDavi · 04/11/2011 11:14

If you stop buying Eggnog Lattes, I'm all for an increase - it always runs out just when I'm addicted into the daily habit.

By the way, don't know if you've seen this:

Come in between 3rd & 6th November
2-5pm, buy any festive favourite and you?ll get another one free.

So, what you should do to make up your "loss":
Buy with a friend, share cost, get your £0.05 back multiple times.

Oh thanks! I keep seeing it posted on MN and couldn't work out what it stood for Grin

Clossaintjacques · 04/11/2011 11:16

YABU to get your coffee at Starbucks. Go to an independent, they might not rip you off and you never know you might actually get some coffee rather than a bucket of air and milk?

GeraldineAubergineZombieBalls · 04/11/2011 11:17

I find ordinary coffee with a bit of cream in and a drop of advocaat in left on top of the radiator for 2-3 days has the same festive charm of a starbucks festive coffee and for a fraction of the price. Their is also the bonus of the slightly fizzy quality it takes on.

ItWasABoojum · 04/11/2011 11:18

Yes - but aren't they doing 2 for 1 on those festive drinks? They are in my area anyway; I assumed it was a nationwide thing.

Also, Starbucks do great espressos. And a large proportion of their coffee is Fair Trade certified, which Costa's and Nero's is not.

Clearly too attached to my escape-from-campus-library destination

Alouette · 04/11/2011 11:28

Ask for a normal latte with a vanilla and gingerbread syrup? You'd get them free then.

Groovee · 04/11/2011 12:00

YABU for even going somewhere like starbucks

CarrieOke · 04/11/2011 12:13

Kill the bastards, naturally.

Anniegetyourgun · 04/11/2011 12:23

Serious coffee drinkers don't put "stuff" in their coffees, but that's not the point. I don't like serious coffee. I like latte because it is a milk drink with a faint flavour of coffee. And a gingerbread latte is a hot gingerbread milkshake with a bit of coffee thrown in. Wickedly expensive and hideously fattening of course! But that's the nature of the beast. Hedonistic luxury. You can keep your bloody po-faced espresso (which makes my head spin anyway).

Ah Starbucks, how I miss thee.

livesinashoe · 04/11/2011 12:34

YABU. Go to Costa, the coffee's nicer & they let you buy gingerbread lattes all year round; I deserted Starbucks ages ago for this reason! Grin
