To want a different coloured debit card?

I'm with LloydsTSB and they have sent me a new debit card. It's bright green, cheap and nasty looking thin plastic and has a Olympics Logo on it - silly shapes all broken up Hmm I don't even like sport Confused

My current one has that nice black horse on and I want another one like that.

I went into the bank to complain and was told that they're only issuing these green ones.

AIBU to want another horse one?

I'm with Lloyds too and hate the stupid green Olymics card! Mine expires in 2012 so do you think my new one will be a different design or as it's olymics year will I end up with the hideous card again?!

Halifax let you upload a pic and personalise your debit card FOR FREE GrinGrinGrin

I like my HSBC silver card. I can pretend it's an AMEX silver card sometimes and make myself feel rich.

proudfoot · 02/11/2011 22:52

YANBU although personally I wouldn't mind a garish green as at least it would stand out and be recognisable in my purse - I have 4 which are all a dark blue kind of colour.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 02/11/2011 22:52

Yes to Smile! I am always getting compliments on my pretty pink card, the other day a male assistant said how much he liked it! Ethical too Wink

Eglu · 02/11/2011 22:53

YANBU, when I lived in NY you could choose your card for your bank acocunt.

hiddenhome · 02/11/2011 22:59

Right, dh is with Natwest, so I'll go over to them I think. I will get a proper card, none of this green Olympic rubbish Grin

Sometime enough is just enough and it's time we took a stand.

It's never occured to me to give my card's design a second thought.
Without going into my purse now I can't recall what it looks like!!!!

NorksAreMessy · 02/11/2011 23:11

lieins great name.
I joined for the ethics, but am rather taken with the pinkness. Silly really, but still love them. When they ring me up, they are sooooooo apologetic that I seem to have stupidly got myself an overdraft...as if it is all their fault, instead of me buying too much fabric.

Andrewofgg · 02/11/2011 23:24

I want one with next week's lottery numbers on in an ink which only I can read. If I can't have that then I am not much bothered.

Gingefringe · 03/11/2011 08:52

I have a HSBC credit card which has a massive Welsh dragon on it. I'm very proud of it and people are always commenting on how fab it is. I hope they never change it.

TheSkiingGardener · 03/11/2011 09:04

John Lewis let you choose the colour. I chose pink. Didn't realise DH's card would be the same colour as mine!

BiscuitNibbler · 03/11/2011 09:19

As soon as I saw this thread title I just knew you had one of the new LLoyds Bank cards.

I hate mine. I hate the colour and I hate the Olympic logo which looks like someone getting a blow job.

notcitrus · 03/11/2011 09:28

One nice thing about the John Lewis credit card is you get a choice of 4 colours (JL green, black, pink and gold, I think), but if you have a partner on the account they have to have the same colour as you.

It would make sense for one company to at least make their credit and debit cards different colours for accessibility reasons if nothing else.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 03/11/2011 09:50

The thing that struck me recently about cards (when I stupidly gave my 11 year old my card and PIN and told her she could take £10 out - guess what happened?) was that shop staff no longer look at or handle the card to check identity, so if someone has your PIN you are stuffed, a man could go around using a woman's card or a child (11 yo for example Angry could use one that says Mrs K LieIns....) In the old days when signatures were checked at least these things could be stopped, and my dh used to have one with his photo on it.

PessimisticMissPiggy · 03/11/2011 09:52

Yanbu.

I want to choice of card colours because mine are all blue! It's ridiculous and I'm with two different banks.

Trills · 03/11/2011 09:54

You think PIN is less secure? Hmm

Much easier to steal a card from someone the same gender as you and copy their signature from the back (which was barely looked at) than to have the choice of anyone's card but not be able to use it because you don't have the PIN.

doublechocchipper · 03/11/2011 10:00

YANBU - I have 3 accounts with my bank - a joint one for all bills/household stuff, a personal one just for me and my spending money, and a credit card.

The fuckers never gave me a choice of colours, and now I very very often get confused and have to log into online banking to pay off some silly thing I've put on the credit card because they are IDENTICAL apart from the fact that two say in tiny white writing "Visa Debit", and the other one says just "Visa" - in the logo. It's very annoying.

duvetdayplease · 03/11/2011 10:02

I think I remember being with Egg or something years ago and I could choose the design on my card. Not sure why more don't do this. It's utterly irrelevant and I know it's meaningless but it was nice getting a choice.

LieInsAreRarerThanTigers · 03/11/2011 10:17

I don't think PIN is less secure, that is not what I said, just when someone has it then there are no other checks. I should think it would be less common for women to be stealing credit cards, so more often the victim now when they might have let a partner or child know their PIN, accidentally or on purpose. I was questioned in a petrol station once in the old days, as I had an Asian-sounding name but am not Asian. I thought the photo on the card was a really good idea.

TeWihara · 03/11/2011 10:35

WHat?! I can't believe you can personalise natwest cards!

I went in to ask if I could have a different coloured card as have several accounts with them and it's bloody impossible to tell the cards apart (sharpie wears off) and they said it was IMPOSSIBLE. lying bastards!
