But it's a mile to the Polish shop and they closed an hour ago!

Have any of you tried it - the most delicious thing ever? I grew to love it when I lived in London and bought it from a Turkish shop, but can now get it in Morrisons as well. But I only go there once a week Sad

URGH URGH URGH!!

My dad used to get me to try and eat Halva when I was a kidder. HORRID HORRID HORRID stuff! Tastes to me like nutty, overly sweet fibreglass.

YABU to the max!

Andrewofgg · 02/11/2011 20:16

YABU. Now go and have a curry and stop grumbling.

ObiWan · 02/11/2011 20:16

I'm not madly keen on it.

I'd eat it if I was starving, but I can't say I'd enjoy it.

neighbourhoodwitch · 02/11/2011 20:17

Yes, it is TO DIE FOR!!! :-)

Mandy2003 · 02/11/2011 20:18

Oh yes, it's similarity to a sweet building material cannot be denied! Andrew - had curry last night Smile

Yum I love halva.

LordOfTheFlies · 02/11/2011 20:20

YAsoNBU
Halva is flippin gorgeous.

We used to buy it from a health food shop.
Cut in squares, dipped in chocolate.
Squares wrapped in buttery flakey pasrty and baked

Or just straight out the packet with a knife.

(Don't know why it was in a health food shop TBH, it's almost pure sugar!)Grin

Andrewofgg · 02/11/2011 20:22

Mandy2003 Had one Monday. To die for!

Mandy2003 · 02/11/2011 20:28

Lord - course it's a health food - it's seeds innit?!

Andrew are you trying to change the subject to curry?

Half Greek so used to have halva all the time as a child, but haven't had it in years. Sad that Ds can't have it as he allergic to seseme and nuts

pigletmania · 02/11/2011 20:38

Yummy it is lush. Yes it does have the texture of loft insulation but it is gorgeous.

FutureNannyOgg · 02/11/2011 20:43

It's a bit late in the day now, but wholefood/health shops usually have it if the polish shop isn't accessible

Andrewofgg · 02/11/2011 20:50

Mandy2003 Always! But I'll STFU about it now. For tonight :o

HelloShitty · 02/11/2011 20:52

Oh yum! I used to work in a deli that sold it in a massive block. It's an acquired taste, but once you've got it it becomes an addiction. Aargh, I wan't halva now.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 03/11/2011 16:20

Have you tried the spreadable chocolate halva in a jar? It's the stuff of your dreams and your dentist's nightmares Grin

Pudden · 03/11/2011 16:23

just eat a few cork tiles instead as it amounts to the same thing

HeatSeekingMelons · 03/11/2011 16:24

Halva is great but now I'm thinking of baklava which is yummier still.
Have I got time to add to my ocado order? Grin

kampakat · 03/11/2011 16:52

HeatSeekinMelons that was my exact though when I clicked on the thread...I too am having cravings for baklava.
There is a stall in our local village market that sells it (along with numerous other yet untasted but equallly sickly looking delights) but when I went down to the market this morning he wasn't there!!!
Fair weather market trader - Pah!!

HeatSeekingMelons · 03/11/2011 17:16

That is just appalling kampakat :)
Hope they return soon!

kampakat · 03/11/2011 17:22

I know!!!
The last time I visited him I asked if they came every week....he said yes...it is irrelevant that it was pissing it down with rain...I took my 16 week old DD out in it just so I could get some!!

confusedpixie · 03/11/2011 17:51

YABU. I want some now Grin Halva, apricot paste and crystallised sugar. My idea of heaven :)

confusedpixie · 03/11/2011 17:53

kampakat: If it's sticky pastry's that he sells, try them, the could be middle eastern type pastries which are made with lots of honey and nuts and they are heavenly.

Dawndonna · 03/11/2011 18:05

If you like Halva, you should try the soft spanish Turon. (Turon de Jijona)
mmmmmmm!
Very, very fattening and imo much nicer than Halva, but I may be biased!
