To get annoyed that some mumsnetters think dogs should be perfect all the time

I try and be a responsible dog owner. I call my dog back if he is near anyone who looks uncomfortable with him, I move him over to the side of the path to let joggers by and clear up dog mess.

But some posters on here seem to think that dogs should alwa\ys be perfectly behaved, never run up to strangers and never bark at people.

Dogs are not robots. However much you train them no dog will always behave 100% perfectly all the time. Some dogs are harder to train. For example, dogs that are really really dim or dogs that have a very nervy and neurotic personality.

We all accept that DCs will not always behave in public. I think most dogs generally behave well most of the time - but it is unrealistic to expect them never to misbehave. So AIBU?

Math IF I was ever to take my dog on the field with livestock she would not be off lead, you can be assured. Despite this I did train her when she was very young as part of the larger socialization programme. It went very well and yes, she now ignores these animals in the rural setting.

As for the parks, I will be walking in the parks with her off lead unless I decide that the circs are such that it is better not to. Those circs are varied but you not liking my dog off lead is not one of them.

She is a very obedient dog, next year we start "dogs-for-the-disabled" training (to aid my dh) because I expect her to do very well in her current programme.

Incidentally, I always pick after my dog. As well as I pick after other people crisp packets and carry bags if I am in the mood. I like my park and want to walk there with pleasure and not fume at the rubbish left by others. Also, just to point out, I cannot stand when others do not pick shit after their animals and when I see it I always say "Oh, you must have forgotten your bags, have a couple of mine!". People always pick up after this, but I agree not everyone respects the law. People would not pick up after their animals whether they are on or off leads if they do not want to do it in the first place.

And isn't a dogger a term used for something else?........

"oh but kids won't bite.."
Well kids certainly will run to my dog and kick it. When it is just a young puppy, on lead, just sitting there. But of course we should understand that, as he is just a kid, they can't always behave properly, just learning. Not some kind of a child-hater, are you?

But if a dog does not immediately obey the command once in 5 years, this horrible monster should be on lead, muzzled, kept indoors and PTS.
