The pumpkin soup turned out almost edible quite well this year. Will serve with nice crusty bread and real butter.

Kids might eat it (except for youngest who's a fussarse like his dad.)

Husband will complain and end up making himself cheese on toast later, he reckons soup isn't food, it's just lumpy coffee.

AIBU? I can't be bothered actually cooking anything and the soup is all made and ready to go. Grin

of course soup is a meal!
especially served with bread and butter.

although, you could go extra and grill some of the crusty bread with grated cheese on - make it quite gourmet.

thestringcheesemassacre · 01/11/2011 15:33

DH always likes cheese sandwiches with soup when it's served as dinner. Give them some cheese on toast to accompany. I'd be hungry after just soup.

CheeseandGherkins · 01/11/2011 15:33

Tomato soup with a cheese toastie is amazing, in fact I really want one now.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 01/11/2011 15:43

Pumpkin soup for us tonight too. Everyone will complain but I don't care much.

Home grown pumpkins!

msbuggywinkle · 01/11/2011 15:44

DDs are currently eating pumpkin and celebration squash and red pepper soup. They are both a bit soup obsessed, they are having bread and butter and glasses of milk with it and the soup itself has lots of red lentils.

Soup is a meal!

maswera · 01/11/2011 15:44

Uproar? Not proper food? Seriously??

If DP complained about what he got for dinner he would get a poke in the eye.

flatbread · 01/11/2011 15:44

Gherkins, that is my favourite too!

Pumpkin soup is so yum as well. Lucky OP's family. I think soup and toasties are a perfect dinner combo.

GetOrfMo1Land · 01/11/2011 15:45

OOH I so want Tomato soup with cheese on toast for dinner now.

flatbread · 01/11/2011 15:47

A bit of a thread creep. Got the Covent Garden soup book. If you have used it, do you recommend any particular soup? Right now I am just browsing through it and feeling good:)

Ifancyashandy · 01/11/2011 15:50

Am having lentil and bacon soup Chez FancyShandy tonight. No crusty bread (carbs are the devil Grin) but I'm single / no kids so no-one else to please. Yum!

Lonnie · 01/11/2011 15:50

Soup and bread is a meal and if your dh is hungry after he can darn well eat another bowl..

auntiepicklebottom2 · 01/11/2011 15:55

i wouldn't class it as dinner, but my break is at 9:30 then i don't eat till 5ish...by them i could eat a scabby horse.

OrmIrian · 01/11/2011 15:56

Is it char-grilled?

We have 2 lovely pumpkins all ready to make soup - apart from a little light charring on the inside. They'd never notice would they?

PessimisticMissPiggy · 01/11/2011 15:57

YANBU I love pumpkin soup! Your family is lucky to have such a good cook making homemade soup.

Canella · 01/11/2011 16:08

There would be moans here about soup as the main meal of the day.

But I made Delias pumpkin soup for lunch on saturday - was delicious.

soupisgoodfood · 01/11/2011 16:58

As the vote is split I'm going to make husband an omelette or something instead (don't want to get into the debate whether an omelette is a suitable meal though, already had that one with MIL thanks Wink )

Kids wolfed the soup down, even the fussarse!
Might start a new Halloween tradition actually, a la turkey sandwiches on Boxing Day Grin

Instead or in addition to the soup? Soup and omelette would be my perfect dinner (after soup and toasties)

soupisgoodfood · 01/11/2011 17:27

Probably instead of, not worth the argument if I have to make something else anyway.

He's his father's son, is all I'm saying

It's fine. I love soup! I usually add some rice, noodles or pasta to make it even more filling. I had homemade tomato soup with pasta and melted cheese for lunch. It was delish!

skybluepearl · 01/11/2011 18:44

Me and my boys have just had soup for tea. They love it. Hubby is away so I can get away with a easy dish

OhYouBadBadkitten · 01/11/2011 18:46

we had pumkin soup yesterday for dinner with walnut bread and apple crumble for pud. It was def a full meal!

GnomeDePlume · 01/11/2011 18:48

Soup is the work of the devil, it isnt food, it is something to wash down the sink while waiting for cheese on toast to grill.

YABU

brianmayshair · 01/11/2011 18:51

Yanbu, dc had carrot soup and bread for tea. They get a big meal at school so soup is perfect for them.
