To not visit cat I am looking after today

My friend had to go home at very short notice last week for a funeral. I am looking after her cat - I pop in every day for an hour or so, play with her, check food and water, change litter tray etc.

I have had flu and woke up this morning with my chest quite bad. I have a chest infection and this morning have been coughing until I vomit. I feel very weak and ca't eat. It feels like someone is sitting on my chest. Today is a holiday so no public transport and it will be a 30-40 minute walk there and then back again which is normally no problem. I could get a taxi there and back, but I have very little money just now.

The cat has plenty of food and water and does very little in her litter tray as I think she just sleeps between my visits. She will come to no harm at all if I do not visit. I don't want to phone my friend and say sorry I can't visit X today. In the past she has went away and asked me to come more than 24 hours after she has left (e.g. leaves Monday evening and I come in on Wednesday)

Would it be ok to not visit the cat today? I REALLY don't think my friend would mind at all - she would be a lot more worried about me I think. If I am still as ill tomorrow then I could get another friend to come to my house, pick up keys and go to cat, though with public transport its only a 20 minute journey there then back so I will manage regardless of how sick I am,and also she comes back Friday so only need to do tomorrow and Thursday.

That's great Smile. Skinned alive, are you a doctor?

Glad you sorted it out. I am in a shitty mood because of my shittens. If you fancy another couple of boys, both de nutted and chipped, give me a shout [only joking DD would kill me]

Cat all done :) Was rewarded by the MOST massive rrrrrr rrrrrrrrr rrrrrrrrrr trilling purr when I came in, though she did nip my hand in disgust when I evicted her off my knee and she realised I was going early! She even clambered on my knee when I was changing the litter today, bless. I adore this cat - she has a real personality.

No, am not a Dr floggingmoly but Dr Vet Med eventually I hope, though am having to take a couple of years out of my degree to save as banks will not lend to students on second degrees at the moment and uni fees are high :(

Back to sofa and my trip out has done me good as am feeling peckish :) Time for a bananna smoothie with lots if honey for sore throat - yum :) Own cats look disgusted at the fact I have been with OtherCat

Ha ha ha - yes, shittens is the right word!!!!! No, did my time with the shitten years, never again (famous last words)

I don't believe the 10 pound test. I've had proper flu followed by very painful sinusitis and although I was in a lot of pain and discomfort I did mange with help from DH to get in the bath. So if I managed that I sure as hell wouldn't have passed up a tenner!

RomanKindle · 01/11/2011 19:56

Hypothetically obviously. As DH was there I would have just sent him out to grab the tenner.

don't believe the ten pound note test either. i had swine flu this year and i have never been so ill in my life. I am a single mum, and had noone to help, I got down stairs, fed dd, and looked after her inbetween being ill. Had I seen a tenner on the kitchen floor, as i loaded the washing machine i would have picked it up!!!

Grin @ kurri

MrsVoltar · 01/11/2011 22:09

The £10 or £5 test is that it is outside on the lawn pirate not on the kitchen floor Grin

Have to say it's a bit unfair to ask someone who lives half an hour away to feed the cat. It's much more usual to ask a neighbour. There's usually someone near who will pop in.
