To think The Witches is not a great film to show a 4 year old?

ds1 (4) went to his friends house on his own for the first time a couple of weeks ago and has been having nightmares ever since. Finally got from him that his friend's mum had put on The Witches for them to watch.

Just googled it as I have never seen it, and I think I might have nightmares after watching a trailer on youtube. Seems to all be about getting rid of children, and he has been very clingy, and not wanting to be left on his own during the day as well, now that I think about it.

AIBU to think its not a great film for young children? Would most people ask when dropping a child off, what they are likely to watch (if anything)? Would like to protect dc without being over-protective.

Ds wacthed it at 4 and loved it - at 6 its still one of his favorite films! I wouldn;t show it to a four yr old without chEcking with a pareNt first it is pretty scary - I just have a child who doesn';t scare easily!

I'd expect a four year old to be terrified of that film, particuarly by the true appearance of the witches. YANBU. Four is too young for that.

At 4 ds would've been up all night for a week, probably 2 if he'd watched that!

That said I don't think it'd have scared me at that age,but I'd expect it to disturb most four year olds.

The girl in the painting freaks me out now though.Blush

OMG. I completely forgot about this film!! I spent ages on Saturday trying to find a good halloweeny movie for DD to watch. She's 3 (4 in november) and she's already seen all the Harry Potters (last part aswell). She's hard to scare.

Tomorrow DD shall watch The Witches!! Thanks for that!

I guess ds is more sensitive than some children then Grin. but yes - would have been nice if her mum had checked with me first cause ds1 does tend to worry about things a fair bit.

If a film was slightly scary I'd always check with the mum before letting a child watch it.
