to think that trick or treaters shouldn't be two women?

So I open the door and two women are standing there. One has a baby in a sling with a paper mask pinned on the back, one has a sleeping baby in a pushchair who has been smeared with black make up round his eyes (I hope).

I looked up and down the road for the children, and one woman sticks her hand out and says "Three."

Taken aback, I politely handed over three sweet things, she looks down at them and the other woman says, "Can't we have another one so it's two each?"

I hand over another one, she drops it and says, "Get that for us, would you?"

Meanwhile, the little boy from next door has appeared, she grabs his bucket and says, "Here, he wants one and all."

Surely this can't be quite right?

Did you not have any rusks ? or whatever babies eat nowadays

Hullygully · 31/10/2011 21:01

Sadly not.

So ill-prepared for the modern trick or treating.

You do realise they were witches Hully, don't you.
I mean the real thing.
You may or may not be cursed forever more
Please keep us informed..

AliGrylls · 31/10/2011 21:07

That's disgusting behaviour. Next year I just would not answer the door. I won't be.

Can I have my own little rant?

Splinters · 31/10/2011 21:14

oooooooooh yes and did they still trick you anyway for not automatically giving them a huge toblerone for the cat?

I second LadyEvil, except I reckon the curse is definitely on. You have to let us know what happens next!

Hullygully · 31/10/2011 21:31

I am covered in warts.

YANBU

We've had a group of teenage boys, they each got a chew.
Also, the guy across the road (about 18 years old). He got a fun size mars bar.
They all looked a bit disappointed.
Happy Halloween everybody [hsmile]

:o last year we had a lady trick or treating with her DOG dog was dressed up as a flower :o:o:o

When my kids were little a neighbor of mine used to come with us and collect candy for her 18 year old dd :o:o

I had a teenager at my door, years ago now, well past official trick or treating time. He was stood there in regular clothes, sweatshirt and baseball cap. So what are you suposed to be then I asked him.He looked at me and said Im a psycho, lady, now gimme some candy :o:o I thought it was funny

Trick or treating has been postponed in my town this year due to the huge snowstorm over the weekend, too many downed power lines to be safe at the moment, its rescheduled for next sunday Confused

Unfortunately the whole thing comes across as thinly-disguised greed. Fairly typical behaviour.

Fecklessdizzy · 31/10/2011 23:15

Eeek, is 13 officially too old now? My 13 year old and his mates have been out and about tonight but they had worked out a little comedy routine to soften the blow ... The little old lady from two doors down came round to complain that she'd missed them knocking and could they pop back when they'd finished the rest of the village!

Bless ... [hsmile]

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 31/10/2011 23:25

I dunno...13 year old lads in scary masks look a bit....well...scary! Even with comedy routines! UNless of course they're short lads....we had a couple who toweed over me....I know them by sight as they live n the next street, but if I didn't I would havve been a bit nevous.

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 31/10/2011 23:25

Towered....not TOWEED! [hhhm]

Fecklessdizzy · 31/10/2011 23:30

Nope, I'm afraid they're all fairly huge ... Mind you it's a tiny place and everyone knows them and they only go to houses with pumpkins and what-have-you outside ... [hblush]

I'll keep 'em in next year, promise!

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 31/10/2011 23:37

We've had several children turn up with their parents in tow - not much older than toddlers.

We've also had groups of teenagers (probably about 14-16).

As far as I'm concerned if they've made an effort to dress up and are polite, I don't care how old they are. I offer the parents a treat if they've made the effort to dress up too.

I think I must be a bit sad. I got quite excited this year when the doorbell went. I used to find it quite intimidating but now I dress up too and make it a bit more fun.

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 31/10/2011 23:38
  • some not much older than toddlers.
TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 31/10/2011 23:39

I wouldn't have given to those people though, OP.

DH has said to people in the past that they can have a treat if they go home and put a costume on. Some people do think they can just turn up and get something for nothing.

Fixture · 31/10/2011 23:42

AIBU to think trick-or-treaters should collect for charity instead of themselves?

Fecklessdizzy · 31/10/2011 23:45

I had 3 singing teen witches who had a little dance that they must have practised for ages ... I wished I had something a bit less crap than slightly previous Fangtastic Haribos to offer in return!

Hungrydragon · 31/10/2011 23:47

DD went today, she is 22 months and quite got the hang of running to the front doors with her bag sneaking through the big kids and going "pliss?"

At nearly every house a lament of "hang on I'll see if I've got chocolate or something special for you" despite my insistence that anything they already had got would be perfectly lovely.

She had to settle for dragging her bag in the end and we have enough flumps and chocolate button to see us through till Easter Hmm Grin

I wish I'd knocked on your daughter, my baby has to put the effort in to get teeth rotting tat Grin

LadyEvilEyes · 31/10/2011 23:47

Just a bit Fixture.

Hungrydragon · 31/10/2011 23:49

wtf!!!!

knocked on your daughter??????

door! knocked on your door!

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 01/11/2011 00:00

We took the DDs including the 3 yar old and she loved it...there were a few houses with babies who were brought to see the DDs.....I loved that..seeing these tinies with eyes like O.O that at the costumes etc. [hgrin]

LapsedPacifist · 01/11/2011 00:12
