  1. People who have had an uneventful evening or even had a little innocent fun with their children.

Versus

  1. Those who have suffered untold miseries due to endlessly ringing door bells, rotten eggs, flour bombs, death threats or napalm through the letter box.

Because every year MN seems to suggest that 2 is a far greater number.

Have never seen it so busy on our normally very quiet little road. But the kids have put a lot of effort in, and lots of the houses have got decorations outside ... one house looks amazing with spiders webs all over the gates and hedge, and glowing tombstones in the garden..

Ormirian · 31/10/2011 20:05

Friends of ours had their huge front window filled with tombstones and a figure of death. Only difference being that the tombstones were all commemorating independent local traders that have gone to their final rest in the last 12m, and death had a Tesco logo on his chest Grin

No 1 here.

I love a pagan festival me.

ratspeaker · 31/10/2011 20:14

Few of the local kids, mostly neighbours, ringing the doorbell, all dressed up
Can hear some fireworks

I'm Scottish so we have always had a tradition of "guising", we didn't do trick or treat , it's kids dressed up doing a " turn " at the door
ie a wee song, a joke etc
follwed by dookin for apples

I believe there is a Samhain parade down Edinburgh High Street later tonight

ratspeaker · 31/10/2011 20:18

The unwritten rule round here is usually only knock on door where it looks like they're keen on Halloween

I've got a bat hanging on the bell pull, a tumshie lantern on the lintle, and a cardboard skeleton in the vestibule ( actually he lives there all the year round just moves to the front at Samhain )

Sparklingbrook · 31/10/2011 20:19

No 1 here. Our 2 went out trick or treating with another Mum, leaving me and Dh jumping up and down every 5 minutes to dish out the treats!

Ormirian · 31/10/2011 20:22

Same here ratspeaker. Well thats my custom anyway and it seems to be the same for all the people I know.

No 1 never experienced no 2.

3monkeys · 31/10/2011 20:22

No 1 here. Mine have been trick or treating with their mates for the first time and had a ball

ilovezumba · 31/10/2011 20:42

No 1 for us, we live off the beaten track and would not have any visitors tonight so was great getting the kids out and actually meeting some of or lovely neighbours ! One gent even opened a bottle of Asto and invited us in Grin

BarkisIsWillin · 31/10/2011 21:27

No. 1 here. Lots of cute smallies with great face painting and costumes. After a while I saw the same kids at our door a second time, I suspect our stuff was too good, and as the bowl was nearly empty I turned off porch/hall lights and havn't heard any since.[hsmile]

worraliberty · 31/10/2011 21:29

No 1 here...had great fun tonight Grin

TeWihara · 31/10/2011 21:32

1!

DD went t/t for the first time properly and was so excited and happy. Everyone who's stopped had been polite/appropriately aged and costumed.

Andrewofgg · 31/10/2011 21:33

Went to dinner with some colleagues. Food to die for. Got home - DW has spent a quiet evening with a friend - a woman whom I can't stand - who left jst before I got here. No hint of 2. Win, win, win.

RaspberryLemonPavlova · 31/10/2011 21:34

No 1 here. Quieter than usual though, got lots of treats left.

Our kids had a lovely time and it was nice to see lots of neighbours children too.

Two neighbours even came round early on with goody bags for the children as they were going out later

lostinwales · 31/10/2011 21:41

It poured and poured but there were lots of good natured ghosts and ghoulies here tonight. DS's 1 and 2 went out in a group of boys aged 9-12 and had a lovely time, I went with DS3 and met just about everyone I know walking around the village and got bloody soaked bah humbug. DH stayed home with a spooky costume and all the downstairs lights changed for UV lights, I think it's his favourite time of the year, I've had to make sure all the people I see trick or treating know to go down to our house! It's lovely here, people who are receptive to trick or treating make it obvious with pumpkins etc and the children don't bother those who don't. We've been loo rolled and egged before which I felt was a bit of an honour [hgrin]

Hassled · 31/10/2011 21:43

I'm a 1. We had lots of fun.

It was Halloween central round here with a healthy degree of competitiveness - one house was perilously close to being like Clare Dunphy's in that Halloween episode of Modern Family.

Hassled · 31/10/2011 21:45

Orm - why have you lost your capital? Were you not OrmIrian before?

EdithWeston · 31/10/2011 21:48

It's a 1 for us.

We don't do trick or treat, and have nothing outside to show callers would be welcome. This has been respected.

caramelwaffle · 31/10/2011 21:49

No 1 here. Fantastic fun.
