to tell my colleague she smells of tinned tuna?

I've never actually seen her eat tuna, but somehow she smells of it. I don't like to ponder on what orifice it's emitted from but I can confirm it is rather unpleasant.

Living with a smelly DP (as you may recall) I have a reasonably high tolerance for odours. However, this woman is in a client facing position and I fear her aquatic scent is a poor reflection on the business. (Not to mention her personal life.)

AIBU to want to tell her she smells of fish and this is a: bad for business and b: possibly the reason she never makes it to the second date?

OK so feelings may be hurt initially, but if I smelled like a John West warehouse, I'd want to bloody know.

Are you sure it is tuna? Not mackerel or salmon?

oksonowwhat · 31/10/2011 18:51

Oh god i can't imagine ever telling anyone they smell of fish!! I would want to and would feel bad for them but i just couldnt!!!

picnicbasketcase · 31/10/2011 18:53

Do you have her email?

try this

depob · 31/10/2011 20:48

Ha ha, but they should use the correct version of discreet ffs

picnicbasketcase · 31/10/2011 20:51

You are quite right, of course, but i's a great idea for a website though. Saves the OP or anyone else the squirminess of trying to talk to her.

aquashiv · 31/10/2011 21:17

I wouldn't tell her. Someone will one day. I just couldnt hurt anyones feelings like that. To be told you stink like a fish must be awful.

bunnyspoiler · 01/11/2011 10:41

Can you ask her manager or someone who is friends with her to tell her gently?

Lookattheears · 01/11/2011 10:46

oh dear lord I'm just dying at that woman asking if you could smell her vadge! Shock

PerryCombover · 01/11/2011 11:35

I was wondering why you felt the need to be the one to tell her?

Gloribe · 01/11/2011 11:37

Oh shit that website is funny.
I've requested a meeting with our mutual line manager re fish.
Now I'm wondering if I smell and don't know.
sniff

If I smelt of fish I'd definitely want to be informed about it.

In fact I'm feeling a bit paranoid now so will ask my bluntly honest DH when he gets home from work Confused

perceptionreality · 01/11/2011 12:00

What an awkward situation!

DontGoCurly · 01/11/2011 12:04

It sounds like she does have that fish odour syndrome. I'd tread very carefully OP. I saw a documentary about it. One woman who had it had to scrub herself with neat bleach twice a day to contain the smell.

I'd just be very careful because you could totally crush the poor woman if it is the case that she has the sydrome.

It's likely to be bacterial vaginosis, a colleague of mine had it. It was very pungent. My more immature male colleagues would squirt air fresheners around.
