to return half of something and ask for a refund!

OK so had a horrible few years (stress/work bullying/ex leaving us) etc and finally had good news and some cash and bought myself some new earrings - £300 - the most expensive earrings I have or am ever likely to buy (I don't really like precious stones etc so unlikely to ever stretch to diamonds).

Wore them once, lost one immediately. Because they had cheap fricking backs (not screw on). Am kicking myself for expecting them to stay on.

AIBU to return the one I do have and ask for a refund because they are not fit for purpose (e.g. staying in your ear)? What do you reckon my chances are and any tips for success/similar success stories please!

Worth a go

Otherwise it's household insurance time

How frustrating

lynniep · 31/10/2011 09:01

honestly? I think your chances are slim to none. I dont really know what screw on backs are as all my earings (cheap!) have butterfly backs and I've never had a problem. If they are dangly I use the little rubber stoppers to stop them falling out (as I've lost a few of these when I havent used them).

sorry.not very helpful that is it.

really won't hold your breath

agree tho how frustrating

ToothbrushThief · 31/10/2011 09:04

Not a chance in hell I'd say (sorry)

They will argue that you knew what the back was like when you wore it and could have lost it in your knicker draw.

If you lost it in M&S on friday- I found one and handed it in btw (serious ...but long shot)

Catsmamma · 31/10/2011 09:10

what on earth were they to cost £300, have cheap backs and no diamonds??

BarkisIsWillin · 31/10/2011 09:31

Check how much it would cost to have another one made to match the one you have left. If you are going on holiday to any country where there is a big tourist trade in selling jewellery,(or know someone who wouldn't mind doing it for you) bring it with you and see if you can get an earring made - I have seen earrings that people have had made in Greece and Turkey and they are perfect copies.

(I know, I know, me and Bet Lynch share similar taste in earrings!)

Maybe I will take a photo of the lone earring and post it on trees near where I lost it and see if it comes home Sad

some credit cards or bank cards have a damage or loss policy for purchases made - may be worth checking to see if you are covered?

BarkisIsWillin · 31/10/2011 09:43

Wow, fabulous stuff:) I don't know which earrings are yours, but is there a possibility of converting the remaining one into a pendant or brooch?

eaglewings · 31/10/2011 15:12

Doesn't matter how much they cost, having followed your link, I'd be crying if I lost one!
