I've got BBC news on and just looked up to see a news reporter in a delivery suite of a woman who gave birth at 4.30 this morning. She looks like shes still out of it and couldnt have given permission if she wanted to!

The story? about how today the 7th billion person will be born, was this child the 7th billion? no so why the hell did they need to be there?

I said that to DP, she looked completely zoned out. Poor women.

MrsKitty · 31/10/2011 08:35

I've been thinking tghe same thing - We have BBCNews on at work and they've been there for hours. Leave the poor bloody woman alone.

Someone at work pointed out "she's probably being paid for it" but surely they've got what they need by now - no need to stay there 'live'?

addictediam · 31/10/2011 08:37

Hours?! I was kind of hoping it was a 1 off and they would leave her be.

Nope, I got to work at 6.15am and she was on then, so I was quite shocked to see her again with the 'live' tag about 20 minutes ago. Poor thing.

MrsKitty · 31/10/2011 08:39

oh, and it was definitely a new slot as the reported was spouting different drivel from the time I saw it earlier!

ChunkyPickle · 31/10/2011 08:53

YANBU - I thought exactly the same thing..

The look on that ladies face is priceless... just accepting it, zoned out, waiting for him to go :)

MrsKitty · 31/10/2011 09:05

Chunkypickle It was the finger-tapping on the blanket which raised a smile for me. I can just imagine the silent "Just....fuck.....off...." thoughts going on in her head Grin.

addictediam · 31/10/2011 09:10

I'm shocked mw's would allow it. Especially (if the first time they filmed her was at 6.15) 1hour 45 minutes after giving birth. Talk about vunerable

Totally agree. I would think she agreed to do it when she was on a euphoric high soon after giving birth. A few hours later, she is now feeling the physical strain of it all.

Silly Beeb Grin.

SomekindofSpanish · 31/10/2011 09:16

Beeb meaning BBC obv and not mum.

DejaWho · 31/10/2011 09:19

Suppose at least she's not had to get someone to ring around the entire family with the birth announcement at least!

Just struck me as an utterly pointless outside broadcast - journalist looked completely arkward rammed in the corner, mum looked like she'd rather be asleep, baby was the only part of the equation not looking like they'd rather be another million places than there.

summerfruitsalad · 31/10/2011 09:22

Poor woman. I gave birth in July last year and was asked by a midwife or someone if I would speak to the media - had DS at 4.40am that morning, no sleep, trying to breastfeed and hadn't had a shower yet, looked like shit. Why on earth they thought I would agree to it I have no idea! My answer was a firm 'No' with a hint of 'now go away'.

The hospital were in the news the day before and that morning because of the result of an inquest into a baby's death at the hospital, think they wanted some kind of positive image!

Shame on them and get cameras out of where women need time alone and to recover

MrsKitty · 31/10/2011 09:27

Looks like they've gone now (I hope!) She was just back on, but without the 'live' tag.

Irresponsible of the hospital to allow it, I think.

PopcornMouse · 31/10/2011 09:55

Omg YES! She did not look like she wanted visitors!

eurochick · 31/10/2011 10:54

I saw this and thought the same thing - she looked like she was completely out of it and did not want the beeb there!

Annpan88 · 31/10/2011 11:06

You can tell they wanted a shot of the reporter with some women glowing and beaming down at her new baby like the virgin mary. That sadly, is not really a reality after someone has been up for days giving birth

Ghooooliuayelps · 31/10/2011 12:47

YANBU.
They had bloody Hilary Jones on ITV annoying new mums, he was speaking to a lady who was only 2 and a half hours after delivery. Just what you need isn't it?

SaffronCake · 31/10/2011 14:24

It's all part of this move culture seems to be making towards declaring birth is no biggie and that we should all be back at our desks by lunchtime. Some bloody cow of a nurse on the phone at the out of hours doctors recently asked me why not when I replied that no I had not been out today... The day was day 4 after I'd had my daughter. For Gods sake it's not normal to want to push yourself to exhaustion and misery, why are we women buying into this? Giving birth IS a big deal.

happydotcom · 01/11/2011 20:47

I saw this too and was shocked ! That poor lady looked unwell and exhausted .

A big congrats to her but thought it was very insenitive of BBC to do that / stay that long.
