to be worried about 8 year olds broadcasting rude rhymes on YouTube?

My DD (8) has just been to a party of a boy in her class. She told me afterwards they'd been playing in the boy's bedroom filming themselves saying rude ryhmes and songs and putting it in YouTube. The rhymes were the sort that 8 year olds do tend to pass round in the playground, but sexual rather than just lavatorial humour, most of it over their heads I think. I'm a bit worried about this, but can't quite seem to come up with any clear arguments to her as to why she shouldn't be doing this. She's pointed out that not many people are likely to find their clips on YouTube, but I still feel uncomfortable about it.

She's new in the school and I don't know this child or his parents at all, so don't really feel I can speak to them about it.

Am I being over-anxious, or should I tell her firmly this isn't allowed? And how would I police it if I did? (She doesn't have an internet connection in her room at home, but many of her friends do).

I would speak to the parents of the other child. If it was my child I would want to know. If you really, really don't want to speak to the other child's parents about it then maybe you could ask the class teacher for some advice. They may speak to the parents on your behalf.

I'd kind of assumed the boy's parents must already know that he's putting stuff on YouTube, maybe they think it's fine?

I really don't know them (don't know their names or phone number) - could try speaking to the dad the one other kid who was at the party who I know to say hello to to see what he thinks.

Children should not be uploading videos of themselves onto YouTube. The next step from that is a child being filmed and uploaded without their consent... and then the bullying begins. I have seen this happen countless times, and it is not nice at all.
