Having just done a quick google all i can find is hyped up stuff from september about snow in october. No snow here yet (kent). Today was 18 degrees and drizzle so I would put that panic attack away and stop reading the Mirror and Mail.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 30/10/2011 18:27

I don't think you need to worry just yet. Metcheck reckons it's going to be mild for a while yet.

If they've predicted a cold winter that probably means it'll be warm and rainy, anyway - remember all those hot summers we were supposed to have?

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:27

Its on my aol.......taunting me

YANBU

The thought of family being stranded in the freezing cold and unable to get home again fills me with dread.

timidviper · 30/10/2011 18:29

Earlier this year DM told me she was worried as she'd read that there would be a heatwave this summer that would kill loads of pensioners. I think this is probably about as accurate as that.

troisgarcons · 30/10/2011 18:31

10 day forecast for kent gives a low overnight temp of - 9 degrees.

Thermals, thats what you need, never mind the anxiety attack.

troisgarcons · 30/10/2011 18:31

that would be 9 degrees not -9

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:31

We have a 7 day forecast of 4 degrees here, sofar

I'm the same. I'm glad this week has been so warm with no snow. It helps me think it might not be as true as they are suggesting...

Sparklingbrook · 30/10/2011 18:33

I have already got my big snow shovel and I am off to get a couple of sledges tomorrow while you can still get them. Going to be organised this year! Buying the sledges will probably ensure zero snow though Grin

HauntyMython · 30/10/2011 18:37

I'm dreading it... DH is on crutches and will be even more housebound than normal. I am working now so unlike last year (DH already off sick by then) I can't do school run/dashes to the shop etc.

Getting more prepared though - clearing up kitchen to make way for an extra freezer, making more cupboard space for tins etc, we've all got wellies.

Need to get a shovel though.

YANBU to panic, but use the panic to get prepared.

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:40

I work an hour away from home and drive through an area that is notorious for snow. There isnt much I can do to prepare for that.

Sparklingbrook · 30/10/2011 18:40

HauntyMython The local garden centre had sold out of the shovels and I had to wait for the next lot to be delivered Shock

HauntyMython · 30/10/2011 18:45

Oh bugger best get my arse in gear then, and for a sled too.

We don't desperately need a shovel as we don't have a car to dig out, but I'd feel better if I were able to help do our shared paths and help clear out the school etc.

TheHumancatapult · 30/10/2011 18:46

Mine are praying for snow second more than couple cm dd can't go to school ad can not get wheelchair through snow up hill and down safely

I'm praying it does not I want them to finish new house

HauntyMython · 30/10/2011 18:47

Well, no there are things you can't prepare for, but you can do lots - making sure you've got non-perishable food at home etc. What about your car, have you got stuff in there like blankets, spade etc (no expert as I said above I don't drive)

A wind-up torch and radio is a very sound investment IME.

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:49

Its not the being trapped, its the actual driving on snow and ice that frightens me. And losing pay.

MrBloomsNursery · 30/10/2011 18:51

I'm pregnant and due at the start of January. This is what I've been dreading since I found out I was pregnant. What if I go into labour at home and can't get to the hospital? What if my husband can't get home from work quickly because of the snow? What the hell am I going to do?

BOOareHaunting · 30/10/2011 18:52

I'm not tbh but YANBU to be worried. My lack of worry is because South England where I am had a few days (4/5 maybe) disruption but I work in a school so was off anyway and have local shops (co-op/bakers/butchers) etc about 200m away, dr's about 100m away and ambulance station about 250m away. Therefore I don't feel cut off as such.

Where are you laptopdancer? (great name btw)

BOOareHaunting · 30/10/2011 18:53

x pots. Can you buy the snow tyre cover thingys?

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:54

Im sort of cheshire way

PyrotechnicsAtYourCervix · 30/10/2011 18:55

The thought of being stuck inside the house with DH and the DDs fills me with dread. with any luck i'[ll get stuck at work. until april.

Sparklingbrook · 30/10/2011 18:56

I hate driving in the snow. DH says helpful things like 'don't brake' Hmm

lubeybooby · 30/10/2011 18:57

It's nearly November so it will go very cold very soon - but that's normal Wink

check this out

laptopdancer · 30/10/2011 18:58
