To be thoroughly fed up with dentists

Took myself and 2 DC to nhs dentist today. I had never seen this one at my practice before.
Her dreadful manner with the children aside, I got really cross with her.
My teeth are essentially very healthy. I had my first filling earlier this year age 35 (a tiny pin head sized one) which was free as DS was still under 1.
My dentist has always said to come every 6 months for check ups and I have complied.

Since about 4 years ago, they stopped cleaning my teeth at each visit. They say my teeth don't need it.

When the filling was done, the practice owner cleaned my teeth and actually complained they were very scaled and asked when were they last cleaned. Confused

Today I was told to bring the DC every six months but not me for a year.
I argued the toss! So my teeth don't get a scale & polish for 18 months when the owner complained how bad they were last time?
I have healthy teeth so you want to use my clinic time to fit in another hopefully with huge dental decay patient.
I am paying £17 for the priviledge of them not even TOUCHING each of my teeth with their prong.
What is wrong with our dental service? AIBU to be cross?

I went yesterday. Its every 9 months now, child and adult alike. Thats what they told me. Mine is NHS and I paid £49 for a check up and a scale and polish.

I've always been in an NHS dentist and never had this treatment. We're seen as a family every 6 months and dh and I usually have a scale and polish in the appointment and they sealed dd's back teeth when they came in.

You have to pay for a clean and polish it's about £45 no dentist does it for free, if you want it done pay for it.

MayDayChild · 28/10/2011 18:28

But isn't it part of my £17 fabby? According to nice?
Groovee I want your dentist!

At our practice, if you want a scale and polish, you have to a)book an appointment to get it done and b)pay for it. They will not do it during your examination appointment as it takes 15mins or so to do.
Think yourself lucky. No NHS here-£128 for a small replacement filling, plus scale and polish.

It's a year for adults with our NHS dentist.

My check ups are every 6 months and DS is having the flouride treatment atm but every 3 months because after having a baby tooth remove under local (adult grew behind) he's nervous and they want him to have more regular visits.

Having said that I an an abcess under 2 teeth and into my jaw atm so having appointments all the time for RCT and impressions and crowns for the 2 teeth. I think I live there. Grin

I thought the check up, scale and polish and x rays were all included in the £17, then fillings/RCT etc picked up at consultation (however many are needed) cost £47 for whole treatment plan, and it £204 when you start needing bridges and crowns.

I actually don't think YABU.
