You need an Oyster card.

I live in Edinburgh, and I have one!

boxoftricks · 28/10/2011 17:26

Definately get an oyster. It would have cost you less than half of that!

MrBloomsNursery · 28/10/2011 17:27

You need an Oyster Card!! It's free! Just order some for "next time" ;)

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 28/10/2011 17:27

If you are going in by train its worth getting a one day travel card if you can.

OhYouBadBadGhostie · 28/10/2011 17:28

although the oyster card sounds like a very good option!

malovitt · 28/10/2011 17:30

Oyster card are not free.
You have to pay a £5 deposit for each card.

MrsTwinks · 28/10/2011 17:32

second the oyster card. Just curious thou, where were you going to/from?

soandsosmummy · 28/10/2011 17:32

Get an oyster card. It is worth it even though there is a one off cost.

I got one in the summer after being stung in exactly the same way as you

Catsmamma · 28/10/2011 17:42

should have got a cab! :D

an all day travel card is £6 ish.....did they flog you one of those instead?

MrBloomsNursery · 28/10/2011 17:43

Do you really have to leave a deposit?? I swear I didn't when I got mine....Hmm..I can't remember now!

ZombiesAteYourCervix · 28/10/2011 17:50

Yes, last time we were in London for a couple of days we mostly walked or used cabs.

London cabs are quite good value if there's 4 of you.

ColdTruth · 28/10/2011 18:00

Oyster cards used to be free but now they cost £5

MrsTwinks · 28/10/2011 18:00

zombies if it was edge to middle that means you would have been going across all zones by the sounds so thats why so much. Its done on a how far you travel basis. Last time i got an all zone travel card (about 5 yrs ago now) it was around £6 so its not gone up too much. Travel cards are as many tubes/buses/overground etc as you want in that time as well. Sounds like you maybe got a bit fleeced by not knowing how it all works

Groovee · 28/10/2011 18:14

I have an oyster card which is the best investment for us and other family members.

Tchootnika · 28/10/2011 18:16

Yep, Oysters for sure... It's still overpriced, though.

And I've gotta say, I'm impressed with your very polite, circumspect 'rather surprised' (fucking outraged would be my choice of words).

coraltoes · 28/10/2011 18:25

I live in London, have aoyster card, yet never fail to feel fucking mugged every time i use the tube. Buses a more reasonable once you're in town. Do get an oyster card, put some pre pay on. It won't expire!

wicketkeeper · 28/10/2011 18:37

All zones travel card is £7.30, and has been for ages (years). It allows you to hop on and off the tube as often as you want within a 24 hour period. I just look at it as being an 'entrance ticket to London' - and really, if you look at it like that, it's not a bad price.

thebellsofsaintclements · 28/10/2011 18:43

Oyster cards ARE free! Just return them to the ticket office at the end of your journey, and you'll get the deposit back in cash. I do it whenever I accidentally leave mine at home every other day

Catsmamma · 28/10/2011 18:48

You should have travelled about a bit more then to get your moneysworth! :D
