to be worried that PILs are upset that I'm having a baby girl

JustANormalGirl · 27/10/2011 11:23

My PILs are very traditional, and I've always known they would have liked my eldest child to be a boy. But I've recently found out that the child I'm carrying is a girl, and I'm so worried that they won't be as interested in her as they would if she was a boy. :(

Not only that, but it is meant to be a secret that I'm pregnant, but somehow it is common knowledge. Not only that I'm pregnant, but that it's a girl. Now not only do I have to worry about their reaction, but also that so many people are watching to see their reaction, IYSWIM?

AIBU to be absolutely shitting myself? And worried for my poor little daughter?

Oh Kate you poor thing! Don't worry, you can get your own back by giving her a fabulously "non-traditional" name.

Queen Nevaeh anyone?!

GrinBlush

ah, this'll get the law changed, anyway.
I hope it is a girl - the best monarchs we have had, have been women.

CAvemum - i had a lady in here yesterday whose daughter was called Heaven. I thought I was hearing things to start with.
the girl was about 8, i think.

CaveMum · 27/10/2011 13:29

LineRunner, either way she'd sound like a lap dancing venue! The "Gentleman's Club" in my local town is called Heaven, there might be a chain!

NadiaWadia · 27/10/2011 13:43

I didn't know she was pregnant?

Andrewofgg · 27/10/2011 13:49

I think you'll only really please MiL if you have a Corgi, with ickle fluffy ears and a waggy tail.

pigletmania · 27/10/2011 17:39

Its not too far fetched, in some countires (India, China), boys are valued over girls, its not impossible for this situation to happen to the op.

MrBloomsNursery · 27/10/2011 17:42

Traditional = having a baby boy first? Confused. How is that traditional?!! It's not like you pick and choose your DH's sperm to have a boy!!

wahwahwah · 27/10/2011 17:46

Doh, slaps head...

good one!

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 27/10/2011 17:48

I was a disappointment to all my grandparents as I was the first grandchild on both sides and had the temerity to be a girl. My brother born 18 months later was fawned over and feted ad nauseum.

KatAndKit · 27/10/2011 17:53

I googled you earlier and apparently you are having boy girl twins. So don't worry too much. Just pretend the boy came out first if it doesn't happen that way, or arrange a c-section to make sure it does.
And have a go at your sonographer who really should have told you about the other baby.

I'm not sure how they know the sex already though.
