To not have a birthday party for my DD.

By not have a party, I mean not inviting her nursery friends and other friends children, and only having a family party with my DN/N's.

She will be 4 soon, and was invited to her best friend's birthday party in September. She had about 4 friends around and had a small party at home. Is it rude if I don't reciprocate with an invitation for her?

It's just that I can't be bothered. I'll be about 32 weeks pregnant by then and have SPD and generally can't be bothered with the formality of inviting guests (other than family) around. At least with family, I know I will be able to relax, and they will be able to make their own tea/serve up food.

So, will it be rude if I don't invite her? Just want to know the etiquette in birthday parties - new to this!! Just tell me if I'm being rude. If I am, I will invite her.

if you also best friends with the mother and can be honest about asking for her to help you when she and child comes, then invite the best friend and the mother as well as family.

or ahve the little friend around on another day.

otherwise just do what suits you. .

Not unreasonable or rude. Sometimes people have parties, sometimes they don't. Honestly most parents don't really enjoy taking their children to birthday parties, so they are very unlikely to be offended if you don't have one.

No, not best friends with the little girl's mother. She came around for tea and play yesterday, so I don't have a problem with her coming around another day. It's just that I don't think birthday parties with friends is important at this age. Obviously when she goes to school, it's another matter.

Okay, thanks people. I don't feel bad about not inviting her now.
