to complain to Bridgestone about this advert with a wrongly fitted baby car seat

On my profile I've loaded up a picture of an advert from tonight's Evening Standard. Unless I'm very much mistaken the top half of the image shows a wrongly fitted Maxi Cosi Cabriofix in a car. The carry handle should be left up to act as a roll-bar protecting the baby in the event of an accident, not down level with the car seat itself.

Based on my instinct that they'll kill more babies by encouraging parents to wrongly fit their car seats than they ever would save by flogging them fancy-dan new tyres do you think I sound flag this up to them? Shall I mention it to Maxi-Cosi too? Any suggestions for being taken seriously?

(apologies for posting in AIBU but I want the traffic!)

notfarm that is scary - to think that people believe their personal preference should override the proper installation of a child seat.

Have now missed a call from the nice lady at Maxi Cosi. She left a message to say that they're really pleased I raised it with them and they're on the case. Wonder what the final outcome will be.

I was watching Eastenders yesterday and at the end (I think), the Asian ex-couple (who were married, then the husband realised he was gay, with the wife who went away and came back with a baby-I don't know what their names are) were sitting in the back of a taxi with their daughter in a forward facing carseat in between them. This baby looks about 7-8kg to me based on my daughter's size and so clearly should not be sitting forward facing in a car, since she would need to be 9kg. And even then, she's so small that she would be far safer in an infant carrier and not in the middle seat of the car forward facing. It really wound me up!!! Angry

Oooh - it's everywhere! (although 'enders should know better given the baby-swap storyline outrage!)

Any idea what the brand of the carseat was?

I know! I feel like I remember it being a cheapo brand, like a Nania, but that might have been on a different programme. If you've got access to BBC iPlayer, you should be able to see it.

I'm sure if its isofix the handle can be anywhere as its not needed for bracing. Our maxi cosi cabriofix could have the handle any way...I think

bemybebe · 26/10/2011 15:26

I honestly do not see it as an issue.

KnitterNotTwitter · 26/10/2011 15:27

SHRIIIEEEK - sorry but you're I'm sure you're not correct. The Maxi Cosi car seats should have the handle up to protect bubs from the roof of your car landing on them in a bad crash etc, etc.... not just bracing...

have just read this which is for the cabriofix and it does indeed state that the handle must be UP regardless of if you're fitting it with isofix or seat belt.

I had an old maxi cosi citi which also had to have the handle up

MoTeaVate · 26/10/2011 16:33

We have a britax infant carrier and the handle has to be down behind the seat. Surely they're all different? As someone else said there's a Mamas and Papas one where it's supposed to be against the seat back. YANBU to contact them and check, but don't be surprised if they come back and tell you that seat was fitted correctly.

aswellasyou · 26/10/2011 16:53

But it's not fitted correctly. And the fact that Maxi-Cosi have responded so quickly implies that they're not impressed at the incorrect fitting. I'm going to try to find contact details for Eastenders/BBC bosses.

SHRIIIEEEKPoolingBearBlood · 26/10/2011 23:56

hadn't though t of that KNT - not an issue for us anymore but interesting to know

KnitterNotTwitter · 27/10/2011 07:47

Mo the car seat used in the advert is definitely a MaxiCosi one so the bar should be up.... Although I do concede that having it down makes a much better/cuter picture of the baby!

Handle should def be up on the Maxi Cosi Pebble thanks Knitter.

Do let us know their response outcome.
