to think that baths are very overrated?

Is this a general experience of baths or am I just incompetent at bubbly relaxation?:

  • I have to run the bath to near-scalding temperatures. If I run it to a normal temperature, it is too cold within 5 minutes and I burn my feet adding more hot water.
  • if I fill the bath to a pleasingly high level, it sloshes into the overflow hole as soon as I get in. This makes me think I'm fat.
  • if I attempt to read a book in the bath, it inevitably gets soggy, either from my wet hands or from the steam. If I have no book, I get bored and start reading the back of the shampoo bottles until a decent enough time has passed to have made it worth running a bath in the first place.
  • when I try to lie back in the bath, bubbles get up my nose and the edge is hard. A bath pillow feels ridiculous.
  • DH decides halfway through that he needs to use the bathroom. Sigh.
  • by the end of the non- relaxing bubble bath, I'm all sweaty. Washing in my own filth doesn't appeal so I have to have a shower.

So, baths are pointless AIBU?

I love baths but my DH dropped a bottle of aftershave into it and cracked it at one end so we can only have showers at the moment and I really miss my bath :( Especially in the winter months, nothing better than running a 'monkey' bath as my hubby calls it and drinking my wine whilst reading trashy magazines...

MrBloomsNursery · 23/10/2011 15:18

c) how is a tiny bit of coloured discharge any different to the norm anyway, or even any other sort of dirt or perspiration you are there to wash off anyway?

Eugh...thanks for making me barf.

This is a vomit inducing thread.

LeBOOOf · 23/10/2011 15:35

Dear me, you seem terribly squeamish about perfectly normal things. How have you ever managed to change a nappy, or have sex, or do any number of everyday things that don't come with a certificate of hygiene and a spritz of cologne?

EllaDee · 23/10/2011 15:45

Rather a bit of blood than vomit, myself.

SOH - I loved the 'periscopes' thing. Grin

Nothing stops you from wearing a tampon in the bath if it really bothers you.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 23/10/2011 15:48

I love a bath.

I get in when it's about half full and carry on filling. Temp and water level just right.

I don't read though. Just shut my eyes and switch off.

birdofparadise · 23/10/2011 16:09

Light some beeswax candles, LOCK the door, turn on Classic FM, put in plenty of scented bath oil, put on your flowery shower cap, make sure you have an oversized bath (fit one when you move in), put your biggest fluffiest towels on the towel radiator within reach, and sink into the hot fragrant water. No, not overrated at all. YABVVVVVVVU Grin

birdofparadise · 23/10/2011 16:11

Oh, and make sure that your taps are half way along and not at one end, then sharing is fab. You do need an extra deep, extra long Corian bath though IMO (not cold to the touch, and can be moulded into better shapes). A bath is one of life's many pleasures.

Malificence · 23/10/2011 16:22

Baths are overrated imho, DH however , can spend an hour lozocking in a red hot one, he puts the radio on, has a chat with me , lays there getting all wrinkly then invariably gets out and feels dizzy. Hmm
I'm in and out in ten minutes, I'd rip out the bath and have a lovely double shower/steam room put in given the chance, DH won't hear of it.
Our jacuzzi bath is more hassle than it's worth tbh , I have to use sterilising liquid once a month or the pipes stink, it sounds like a jet engine and vibrates like a spin drier with the jets on, so it's not that relaxing.

Shodan · 23/10/2011 16:45

Gawd I couldn't do without my daily bath.

Get in while the bath is filling, get it to the right temperature and then lie back with a book (which never gets wet). First third of bath time is for reading, second third is for daydreaming, third bit for washing.

I get out bright pink and very happy.

LittleMissFlustered · 23/10/2011 17:11

Baths are a necessity as we have no shower, so I find them hard to enjoy. In, scrub, rinse and out again. I can spend hours in the shower thoughGrin

TheGhostOfMrsWembley · 23/10/2011 19:05

Maligicence Where do you get your sterilising stuff from. I've tried several ways of doing ours and nothing seems to work very well.Sad

I just use Asda's baby bottle sterilising fluid, much cheaper than Milton.
Fill the bath with lukewarm water to cover the jets and let it bubble away for 15 mins or so with the aeration tap as open as it will go , you wouldn't believe the crap that comes out of them. Shock

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 23/10/2011 20:30

I've never bonded with baths and much prefer a shower. This might be something to do with the fact I was 23 when someone enlightened me to the fact you can sit the opposite end to the taps then they don't stick in your back.

ilovesooty · 23/10/2011 20:33

I hate baths. Showers all the way - partly because I can't get out of the bath since a replacement hip op.

helpwhatdoIdonow · 23/10/2011 20:42

yep, hate baths. showers all the way!

skybluepearl · 23/10/2011 22:48

I live in my bath! I can easily have a cup of tea followed by a glass of wine, read a book, nibble something sweet or even a sandwich in the bath, have nice chats with my kids and have a face mask on - all at the same time. Very relaxing! Except when my kids get in too!

skybluepearl · 23/10/2011 22:50

Gosh and yes i spend lots of time on the phone whilst in the bath too - only long phone calls to to close friends though. Why somethimes they are even in the bath too!!

cantspel · 23/10/2011 22:56

A few months a go i had a bartolin cyst and over a 48 hour period i must have had about a dozen very hot baths to try to draw it to the surface.
It worked though and after 2 days my egg size cyst started to ouze the most revolting puss.

TheGhostOfMrsWembley · 24/10/2011 09:09

Grin at Wynken

Many thanks Maificence, never thought of baby sterilising stuff!

harassedandherbug · 24/10/2011 09:17

AKMD YANBU...... I could have written your post apart from the bit about dh, we have more than one loo luckily!

I don't "do" baths very well as it is and I like stuff in my bath but can't stand bubbles. Why do they always go round your neck when you like down?

I'm 7mths preg and have spd and really thought hoped a nice warm bath would help the aching, but no it just hurts more. Def no water birth happening here!!

Sticking with my lovely showers Grin

AKMD · 24/10/2011 09:39

Envy those who have space for extra-large baths. Our bathroom just about fits a bath with power-shower, a sink, a loo and a towel rack. If I put a bigger bath in it would stick out over the stairs! The other way: bath or loo? Hmmmm...

I am ridiculously scared of candles. The thought of being naked surrounded by the horrid things is shudder-inducing.

:o at telling DH it's now or use the garden. Good tip!

Did someone just admit to shopping in Shock ASDA? Shock

I love baths

Does anybody ever leave their bath water in for DP/DC's?

Malificence · 24/10/2011 11:03

OMG, don't tell me I'm not supposed to shop in Adsa? Hmm
