to report this dog owner to the police

My toy poodle got pounced on and pinned down by an Alsatian. The owners stood by and sweet FA. Mine was on lead and theirs wasn't. The dog went to attack mine and had it's entire body over my dog's. It was crushing him. He's not tiny and weighs about 7 kilos. My dog is fine but I'm furious. I was in a state and didn't do anything at the time. I want to report them incase their dog ever attacks or injures anyone and they can't claim it never attacked before. I can't tell them much but I feel I want to do something.

Sacre, I know pounds that don't feed/vet treat death row dogs too. Bastards. :(

It sounds like your council at least follows a good, humanitarian practice in cooperating with rescue, although as I said, the rescue must have their permission to take the stray and, for the benefit of those who aren't acquainted with the law, of course it is a legal requirement to report the finding of a stray to the council even if you intend to keep him.

My dog used to leap over into next door's garden until they mended their fence.

I used to call him and call him and he'd totally ignore me Hmm

The only way to get him back (and I kid you not) was to pretend to order a chicken takeaway on the phone. As soon as he heard the words "Hello, can I make an order for delivery? Yes it's 0208 (rest of phone number)" He'd fly back over the fence like he was in the Grand National Hmm

Sacre, your local pound isn't a very large one with a somewhat misleading name, is it?

If so, what you say comes as no surprise. Angry

SacreLao · 22/10/2011 22:55

Worral - Your dog sounds hillarious!

Fancy swapping for a 9 stone Rottie that is so terrifed of the dark that I have to stand in the garden with a torch so he will do his business at night?

You will also need a large umbrella for rainy days as well as he will not go out then either. Although if we get the lead out for a walk it could be a bloody Tsunami outside and he will still go Angry

SacreLao · 22/10/2011 22:57

DBF - Not sure what you mean by misleading name so perhaps not but it is a large one yes. Claims to 'give dogs a chance'?

worraliberty · 22/10/2011 22:58

Errrr I might give 'Dog Swap' a miss...though it'd make great TV I'm sure (as long as you dog isn't afraid of cameras too!) Grin

SacreLao · 22/10/2011 23:04

Oh no camera's are fine.

In fact we have lots of nice photo's of his tongue as he likes to lick the lens whilst getting his picture taken. :)

He has a unique personality at least and is a huge softy, never met a dog quite so loving actually. Hence why we couldn't part with him. He was our first failed foster.

DogsBeastFiend · 22/10/2011 23:05

Yes, that's the one Sacre. A home from home it certainly aint. :(

On the subject of shitty pounds, and going further off on a tangent, whilst PMSL at Worra's dog and wanting to run away with your Rott (love the breed), have a look at my post at 23.43 here - Bryn's Story.

SacreLao · 22/10/2011 23:16

I have 2 of them DBF, after sadly losing one this year to cancer :(
Used to be terrified of them and got won over by their devotion after getting involved in rescue.

That story is heartbreaking, poor Bryn :(

We have heard the same thing over and over.

I foster for a Rottie rescue and they collect a lot of dogs from MDH, the amount of times we have gone to pick up a dog to be told it's too late is disgusting, when they have known there is a space ready for them as well.

They recently PTS a Rottie that they claimed was 'severely aggresive' this was a 4 MONTH OLD puppy FGS, no dog that young cannot be saved, and again we had experianced people ready to take this pup and rehabiltate but sadly MDH decided they knew best.

Sorry for completely taking over your thread by the way OP :)

DogsBeastFiend · 22/10/2011 23:28

Sorry too OP. :) But just to add, Sacre, when I posted Bryn's story on one of the rescue boards (can't recall which, either DogPages or BigGSD) I had a couple of MDH workers coming along to ask me how I dared tell such lies, that they never killed any dog etc etc.

Yeah... and I'm a banana.

SacreLao · 22/10/2011 23:39

Well they can challenge me all they bloody want, I still have photographs of the poor dog I collected from them and they claimed a vet had seen him!!

Unless the vet was bloody blind then it was clearly a complete lie as this dog was in such an appauling state that at one point we did not think he would make it.
