aibu to be really proud of my son who was the only child out of twenty to go up unprompted to each of the family who organised his friends party and said thank you (family was mum dad and both sets of grandparents) he is four

I have to say though at that age I would expect no less

Though I do accept some kids have appauling manners at all different ages.

Yes, you ought to be pleased and proud. I hope there were other parents there who noticed and might give their children some lessons in manners.

this is just a thinly veiled brag,a fish for compliments
maybe other children gave thank you cards.shy kids wouldnt approach adults to say thanks doesnt mean rude. there are more than one way to express gratitude and manners
