To wonder what the hell the three little kittens actually need mittens for?

DD, age 4 pointed this out at the bedtime story.

A fair point.

Maybe their controlling mother bought them in order to scold them when they lost them?

What a (feline) farce

Any suggestions and/or similar critical analysis of nursery rhymes?

what do you think they need them for? to keep their paws warm of course!
duh!

JamieComeHome · 19/10/2011 18:34

rhyme is incredibly important to the development of children's awareness of the the sounds of words

JamieComeHome · 19/10/2011 18:35

I hope the mittens have strings on them so the kittens do not lose them

professorsnape · 19/10/2011 18:35

Really?
Why don't real kittens wear them Confused

:o euphemia

To get to the other side.

SecretNutellaFix · 19/10/2011 18:38

Haven't you heard how cold this winter is going to be? Think of their tiny little paws, blue with cold.

I'm sure Mummycat was being very prepared and buying in advance and those naughty little cats took them out without her knowing. Of course she will tell them off. Wouldn't you?

Marymaryalittlecontrary · 19/10/2011 18:57

I would like to send my cats out with mittens on to keep their paws warm, but sadly I don't think my cats would comply and keep them on. I know they weren't keen last year when I made them wear a little cat Santa outfit so I could take a picture!

DownbytheRiverside · 19/10/2011 19:28

Because it is better than being declawed.

moreyear · 19/10/2011 19:55

So they could wash them and thus get some pie of course.

Tortu · 19/10/2011 19:59

Well, I suppose I have always vaguely wondered why that caterpillar feels miraculously better after eating one green leaf. Surely that wouldn't cure all the overeating and junk food he had gorged on earlier on in the book? Now some Rennie, or something like that I could understand...

Pfriend · 19/10/2011 20:12

Haha tortu. We have always said that the hungry caterpillar sends a bad message about binge eating!

ihatecbeebies · 19/10/2011 20:23

In the nursery rhyme humpty dumpty it doesn't mention anything about an egg, yet humpty is an egg in every picture drawn of him Hmm

LizzieMo · 19/10/2011 20:48

Don't get me started on Wee-Willie-Winkie!!

Its jack jumping over the candlestick that riles me, it goes against every bit of advice about not playing with fire - he makes it look safe!

Panzee · 19/10/2011 20:52

I assumed one nice green leaf helped with roughage. The VHC had a nice big poo, and so he felt much better. :o

ihatecbeebies · 19/10/2011 21:20

He could be a number of less horrific things, but why an egg in particular, who decided it was an egg?

Kittens do not eat pie.

KreepyInMind · 19/10/2011 21:41

So they could lose them then cry over it
