shes only just in reception, it will be the last day of school before the half term.

YABU. It's a school, not a drop-in centre.

camdancer · 17/10/2011 19:57

Not so much a request but a notification.

I think that sometimes you have to make memories rather than do the "right" thing.

dramatrauma · 17/10/2011 19:57

YANBU. Enjoy.

zipzap · 17/10/2011 19:58

Yes, remember that not everywhere have the same week for half term - lots of schools on half term this week or on half term next week so having an inset day on Friday...

cjbartlett · 17/10/2011 20:02

Crumbs if you take the view that nothing vets done on the last day of a half term as well as term that is 6 days a year you think they do nothing

shubiedoo · 17/10/2011 20:03

Oh, come on. What are the school going to do? Just say you're going away and she won't be in. Do you only get so many absences and then you're fined or something?

UnSerpentQuiCourt · 17/10/2011 20:05

Definitely go!!! I would (and I'm a teacher!)

DeWe · 17/10/2011 20:36

I doubt it will be much less busy as it's probably lots of schools on inset days. And people think "ah an inset day I go to XXX when it's less busy". And it gets just as busy... Legoland works that way anyway.

BleurghUna · 17/10/2011 20:37

Most schools allow you to take some days' holiday during term time - I think up to 2 weeks - so you could use some of this allowance. As long as you are honest with them I wouldn't see any problem with it. Plenty of people go on holiday with reception children in term time.

Itsjustafleshwound · 17/10/2011 20:40

Your child is of "compulsory school age" on the 1st January, 1st April or 1st September following their 5th birthday.

It would be different if the child was older...

ghoulsjustwannahavefun · 17/10/2011 20:41

im with camdancer on this. Make a memory. But then i did take my DC's to Disneyworld for a fortnight in term time so im a rebbel anyway.

worraliberty · 17/10/2011 20:41

I wouldn't for a couple of reasons.

  1. It's a normal day at most schools
  1. It's teaching her that school isn't that important if there's something more fun to do.

However, I suspect you will anyway...so do square it with the school as Truant Officers do constantly include theme parks on their 'beat'.

ghoulsjustwannahavefun · 17/10/2011 20:42

rebel Blush

HerScaryness · 17/10/2011 20:42

Usually reception kids drop like flies in the week before the first half term, it's an achievement if they make it through without illness. Mind you, then they are ill DURING half term, which is really crap.

If she's up to it, then do it.

worraliberty · 17/10/2011 20:43

Oh I've just realised her age...truant officers not a problem then.

carriedababi · 17/10/2011 20:47

i dont think dd would even know what day it is

begonyabampot · 17/10/2011 21:18

I'd do it, especially last day of term in reception (what is she really going to miss?) but then i've taken the kids out before for holidays.
