Was waiting at the bus station today, and a man in very close proximity to me started to hoik and spit near me Envy, I was almost sick in my mouth. A few mins later a man who was eating some food, let out a mahoosive belch, as did somebody else Envy. Why do some people display such appealing manners at bus stops Hmm. This is not a wind up, I am a regular poster who witnessed some horrible manners today.

herscaryness that was funny - made me lol!

HerScaryness · 17/10/2011 22:50

Ha ha! Pop over onto to the dri¿ing round Reàding thread for my human shield approach to crossing a road....

milkyways · 17/10/2011 23:28

I agree, some people have no manners. Not a bus stop story, but I took DD to the park the other day and there was a man there with his wife and DS. He was playing with him, and then burped out of the blue really loudly. DD(aged 3) was close to him and shouted "EUUURGGHHH, THAT'S DISGUSTING" and ran towards me! I don't know who was more embarrassed, him or me. I do love how children can say the things you're thinking, out loud!

pigletmania · 17/10/2011 23:29

thats great milkyways I wish there would have been a convenient child at the bus station today to remark on such vulgarity Grin

good job you don't live/holiday in India- gobbing on the floor is practically obligatory...

garlicScaresVampires · 18/10/2011 02:28

Fascinating ... nostril holding on one side whilst expelling snot out of the other side ... I've never heard of this! I'm going to have to try it! In the shower, perhaps, eh.

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 10:33

Do not try the snot expelling anywhere - it is neither smart nor funny Grin

I first heard about it from some beardy weirdy hill walker type who assured me that it's commonplace up them mountains. I'm not sure I quite believe this - I'v never come across it during any of my jaunts across the heather. And no, I didn't see this in Morningside!

silverten · 18/10/2011 10:45

Snot expelling- erm, yes.

But only in the mountains.

Because it is simply stupid to carry tissues/hankie on a long walk through the driving rain, the sort of weather that sets your nose streaming, when you could discreetly huff it into a bush where it will do no harm.

Obviously anyone with any sense of decorum doesn't just flob in anyone's general direction.

choceyes · 18/10/2011 10:49

Oh why did I start reading this thread while eating a banana. eurgh.

I hate it when people spit. Horrible horrible horrible.

AprilAl · 18/10/2011 10:50

I tried the snot expelling once while out cycling with no tissues (please note: I was in the middle of nowhere and checked that there was nobody around to see and be disgusted by it first!)

If you're going to try it, my advice would be to make sure you blow hard and check the wind direction first, otherwise you end up spending the rest of the day with a streak of dried snot over your shoulder.

Needless to say I've only tried it once Wink

silverten · 18/10/2011 10:53

Yes indeed it does take a bit of practice. I learnt pretty quickly when doing a lot of mountain biking- you just can't keep stopping and faffing with tissues!

worraliberty · 18/10/2011 11:01

One of the Dads at school coughed up a greenie and spat it on the school playground a couple of months back Shock

The Head Mistress saw him, went and fetched a paper towel and made him clean it up! Grin

Maisiethemorningsidecat · 18/10/2011 11:03

I heart your Head Mistress Grin

Good for her - hope he was thoroughly ashamed.

manicbmc · 18/10/2011 11:04

Good for her, Worral!

I hate spitting. It's vile.

worraliberty · 18/10/2011 11:06

She's a dying breed....very old school with a look that could wither a rain forest Grin

Abcinthia · 18/10/2011 11:25

I hate spitting. Once sat behind a man who was spitting continually onto the floor of the bus. There was a puddle of spit on the floor.

I told him to stop because it was so horrible to watch and other people use the bus so have some respect for them and the bus. He looked embarrassed and stopped for 5 minutes or so before spitting again.

sportsfanatic · 18/10/2011 11:41

I suspect I am one of your older posters Sad but when I was a little girl my walk to school used to involve slaloming between the gobs of spit and snot on the paths. By the next decade it seemed the practice had died out thank goodness along with the fall in TB. Now it seems to be returning..along with the return of TB. It's not just disgusting it's a health hazard.

I also blame the sports people who seem to think that spitting all over the field of play is an OK thing to do (a practice rarely seen in my distant past Grin ) Swallow it you utter bollocky knobs. It isn't macho - it's boaking.

AprilAl · 18/10/2011 11:42

Three cheers for your Headmistress Worral Grin

Sparklees · 18/10/2011 12:25

What a timely topic! Yesterday I was stopped (needed to sort the children out) on a raised car park next to a bus stop at 11am. The edge of the raised car park was a waist height wall which ran along the back of the bus stop if that makes sense. I was a few yards at most from the bus stop.

I was pretty squicked out to see a man approach the wall, and despite having clearly seen me, whip out his todger and have a wee against the short wall. I could see absolutely everything, well, for the brief second it took me to realise what he was doing.

He could have a) not done it or b) gone further along as there were plenty of spots out of my sight. He was no more than a few feet away and he would have known I could see everything.

Wish I had said something, but I was alone in a slightly dodgy area with two young children and didn't want to risk the confrontation. Had I been on my own I would have.

CogitoErgoSometimes · 18/10/2011 12:29

Human folk? As opposed to faerie folk and goblin folk.... Hmm

garlicScaresVampires · 18/10/2011 12:53

Goblins hawk, everyone knows that [hgrin]
Fairies sneeze pollen!

pigletmania · 18/10/2011 13:01
