this is totally hypothetical but a conversation the other day about couples who are desperate for a certain gender and have loads of kids and sometimes sadly it never happens,

I said well surely you could advertise to adopt a baby girl only, they were horrified and said you can't really do that, AIBU to think aslong as its made clear in the begining??

p.s hope I dont offend anyone by this

Just to add, children from around the age of 7/8 can state if they don't want to return to their families, unless there is actual abuse then they are not put forward for adoption, it is the childs right to choose which has meant that there are less awaiting adoption, without medical needs, that is.

If you can adopt siblings then you have more of a chance, but then they are more likely to be different genders. Most children are in supported/foster care living, there are very few childrens homes, anymore. The one's that do exsist are for children who would rather be in an home than with a foster family.

There are no private legal adoptions anymore. The Local Authoriuty has to be involved. This happened when the idea of Parental Responsibility cam in. To transfere PR you have to go via the court, which atomatically involves the LA.

A foster carer/family member can apply for Special Guardianship, which is similar to adoption, this still has to be done via the court.
