To not let dd (6) wear heels and makeup?

we went to a party and she was the only one not wearing high heels and makeup. She did have glittery nail polish and I felt I was pushing the boat out at that. The others had heels and full makeup eyeshadow blusher etc.

Should I just let her so she is the same as her peers? Is it just harmless am I being incredibly uptight?

I don't think you're being uptight, you're letting your daughter be what she is-a 6 year old child so no, YANBU

MrBloomsNursery · 15/10/2011 12:00

NO, YANBU. What kind of party was it? Fancy dress? I would never let my DD wear make-up at aged 6. Don't give in to peer pressure.

BuxomWenchOnAPony · 15/10/2011 12:01

Wow, 6 year olds?! No, YADNBU, that's horrible Shock

whackamole · 15/10/2011 12:01

A little bit uptight! Didn't you ever wear those dress up shoes or clomp around in your mums high heels? I did! I also used to love playing around with my Tinkerbell make up (do they make it anymore? Peel off polish!)

For one party I think you could've made an exception.

StuntCubble · 15/10/2011 12:01

Just a normal party. 6/7 year olds

Oh I had assumed it was some sort of dress-up party, rather than all the children arriving like that!

If that is the case then YANBU.

StuntCubble · 15/10/2011 12:02

Whackamole I had even anticipated that they might be wearing makeup and heels tbh

YADNBU, it is hard as it is to let children be children.

I have only just started to let my 16 yr old wear heels and make upGrin.

My youngest Dd is big for her age and I am finding it increasingly difficult to find clothes which aren't mini adult clothes for her.

Stick to your guns stunt.

I'd just hate her to be teased or set her at a disadvantage socially though I'm prob overthinking it, she isnt that bothered

It was in the evening, out for food etc if that makes any difference?

Odd. When did all this happen? I never wore makeup at six

Yanbu my dd who is 6 is still into fairies and princesses and I hope she will be for a while yet. Kids grow up so fast these days anyway and I certainly wouldn't put makeup on her. I sometimes let her have a bit of nail polish on on school holidays but that's the limit.

YADNBU - I do not understand why parents dress their girls like mini tarts

What kind of school is it where the 6 year olds are wearing makeup and heels?? My dd is 7 and in year 3 and they all look and act like babies still! even he mostmature ones are still into fairies etc. None wear makeup to a party. They wear leggings and a pretty tunic or a little dress with flat shoes and tights!

Fixture · 15/10/2011 12:52

YANBU

MumblingAndBloodyRagDoll · 15/10/2011 12:53

Watch her little feet Cassette My DD has dress up heels but she wears them in the house. I als paint her nails and she wears lipgloss in the house when she is dressing up...but it's clear!

tryingtoleave · 15/10/2011 12:56

I thought the op was a joke or a typo Sad

worraliberty · 15/10/2011 12:57

YANBU

But having said that, it's a little weird isn't it?

In all my years as a parent (19 of them) I've never entered a party where all the 6yr old girls wore make up and heels Confused

Do you live at Dale Farm by any chance? Grin

tryingtoleave · 15/10/2011 12:57

I remember begging my mother to let me wear lip gloss when I was 12.
