To think nose blowing should be done in private

Just as the title says really. DP often gives his nose a good hoot at the dinner table and other public places and it makes me sick!
Nose blowing should be done in private if possible, no one wants to hear snot flying out your nose at a million miles an hour and then see you wiping it up from your nostrils .

Am I right?!

YANBU! It's worse than sniffing! I DONT want to hear a gallon of snot being expelled near me!

HollywoodAgentForTheLivingDead · 15/10/2011 14:45

'plus possibly some more hands on clearing out'

That's much more my kind of nondescript way of talking about these nasty body functions Grin

loserface · 15/10/2011 14:50

I have a lovely life thank you knitted :) This isn't a major drama in my life, just thought i'd see what others think of it.

Personally I'd much rather hear someone sniffing a bit. I cant see how there are many possibilities where you would not be able to wander off to another room to have a good blow.

SeveredHeadsDragonTheFloor · 15/10/2011 15:02

FFS, it's nose blowing not snorting snot out onto the floor.

HollywoodAgentForTheLivingDead · 15/10/2011 15:05

But you can't think of a person doing it without thinking of what's coming out Severed.

IdjustassoonkissaZombie · 15/10/2011 15:07

"But sniffing is absolutely disgusting! Actually makes me heave, that repetitive wet, slurpy suck up the nostrils. Urrrgh, making me shudder." Yes yes. I was sitting an exam and the chap in front spent the whole exam sniffing loudly and snottily every minute or so for 90 mins, it drove my potty

If I have a cold and I'm out and about or busy with the children I just get on with blowing my nose into a fresh tissue tbh. It gives me awful sinus headaches if I keep sniffing. But I don't generally blow very loudly. My Dad and brothers make a honking noisy sound which makes my teeth itch when they do it. You know I never thought much about nose blowing until now... I think YAB a little U.

Meglet · 15/10/2011 15:15

yabu. Sniffing and snot are worse.

However, I used to have to check my tissues for years as I had dreadful noses bleeds until I was a teenager. Always wanted to make sure I hadn't blown out a stream of blood and have it running down my face.

I blow my nose in the work toilets when I have a bad cold, it does mean I'm up and down every 10 mins but the office is dead quiet and I don't want everyone to hear.

SeveredHeadsDragonTheFloor · 15/10/2011 15:15

Chewing food should only be done in private, after all it is impossible not to think about all the chewed up food. Hmm

SuePurblybilt · 15/10/2011 18:16

I so agree. Hawking, blowing and sniffing should all be done where people are not. Especially me.

ChippingInToThePumpkinLantern · 15/10/2011 18:25

No-one should blow their nose at the table - that's revolting (wiping a small childs is fine). In general, if it's a small blow or a wipe then fine - but if it's one of those 'good clean out' jobs - then find somewhere more private for it.

YABU. It's only a bit of snot. Or a lot of snot in my case at the moment. I like to know what colour it is so I know how the cold is progressing so I always have a little check. Clear is a little disappointing, green is good, yellow bad.

crystalglasses · 15/10/2011 19:13

I once worked opposite a young, fairly glamourous and well dressed colleague who regularly picked her nose or blew her nose and inspected her tissue afterwards. Apart from finding it absolutely disgusting, I was also shocked that she would do it, bearing in mind she was so well groomed.

duvetdayplease · 15/10/2011 19:20

I think your glamourous colleague was me, wasn't it?

LadyEvilEyes · 15/10/2011 19:23

minimisschief · 15/10/2011 19:53

crazynannawitchbitch · 15/10/2011 20:20

I admitted this one the other day on here.
Last week,on the 43 bus,I had one of those sneezes that literally 'come from nowhere',and no time for tissue or hand over my mouth, and I lobbed snot over the back of some lady's coat [hblush]

Rollon2012 · 15/10/2011 20:21

I agree OP to the point where once In school I used a cubicle to blow my nose was in their a good 5 mins , I people were banging and I came out to a queue ...

little did I know it was the only working toilet :/

blackeyedsusan · 15/10/2011 20:24

I was going to say yabu, but reading the circumstances... yanbu.

yuk

HollywoodAgentForTheLivingDead · 15/10/2011 20:29

Would you mind turning your head to breathe in crazynanas direction please minimiss?

butterflyexperience · 15/10/2011 20:31

This thread is great!
I had no idea nose blowing caused such offence Grin

Can agree about sniffing.
But honestly if you have a cold with a runny nose which you need to wipe every 5 minutes are people really suggesting to blow thier nose in the toilet?

What if your at work won't managers think what the heck is going on???

Sleepglorioussleep · 15/10/2011 20:37

Today is my day for learning how many ways bodily functions can offend! So dh, who has really allergic days, should either drip or leave the table fifteen times during a meal? Good grief. I can understand washing your hands after a nose blow if you are cooking or serving food. But honestly-rating your own food? Or not eating at all? Excessive. But then I sit on loo seats!

loserface · 15/10/2011 21:06

If you've got a bad cold or allergies then fair enough, you need to blow your nose when needed. I think though that if you can sneak off to the toilet or another room to do it then why not? It's not exactly a pleasant sound or image to have in your head.

MowlemB · 15/10/2011 21:08

YANBU.

I once know someone who blew his nose so loudly that you could actually hear it from two rooms away. It really was that loud. Absolutely foul - always made me feel sick.
Definitely in your camp.

TotemPole · 15/10/2011 21:16

If I have a cold or hay fever and had to leave the dinner table to slip to the loo every time to blow, I might as well take my dinner with me and eat it in there.
