AIBU?

Jacket Potatoe

Ordered a jacket potatoe at cafe. Offer £3 for potatoe with beans & cheese.

Asked server for the potatoe but to leave off the beans. They said could do that but would be charged £4 as a potatoe with cheese was not on offer. the server said scrape of the beans if dont want them!

AIBU? Its not as though the potatoe with the two toppings was pre-prepared. I just thought this was the most stupid thing heard in a long time.

oh ok. lissie

i still do not understand what the op doesn't get in this scenario

jacket potato and cheese is £4
why she thinks she should get it cheaper when only the jacket potato cheese and beans are on offer i do not know.

it is like saying walkers cheese and onion 6 pack are half price and going up to the counter with ready salted and wondering why you have to pay full price

Erm, can people stop going on about her spelling, not a big deal really. Yanbu OP, why couln't they leave the beans off, it's just so weird!

Comedycentral, they could. Making the meal one that was already priced at £4.

YANBU - you weren't asking for any extra cheese, just NO beans. Real jobsworth. Would they have served you the beans in a separate dish/plate i wonder?

Bloody ridiculous if it wasn't already plated up.

But (at the risk of banging my head against a wall) jacket potato with cheese was on the menu. She could have it at the advertised price. Stock control is critical in these places. I would have done the same. When I was managing I would have had all my staff do the same. Doing your job is not being a jobsworth.

Lissie - so because it was 'on the menu' does that mean you can't apply a bit of common sense?

Report
LissieLovettsDeliciousDuckPies · 14/10/2011 19:03

well, i dont see it as common sense to sell an already priced item at a 25% discount for no reason. if you can buy a multipack of crisps for £1.50, would you expect to buy an individual pack at the equivalent price, just because you dont want the rest?

CalmaLlamaDown · 14/10/2011 19:08

For the purposes of 'stock control', the staff could have thrown the bloody scoop of beans straight in the bin then!

Report
LissieLovettsDeliciousDuckPies · 14/10/2011 19:11

but why should they? it would be selling the item at the wrong price and they could lose their job over it. I really dont understand how people can not get this.

she could have the jacket, from the menu as advertised. just not at the price that she wanted to pay. but at the price that it was being sold at.

and, from another angle: we have had several incidents on here where people have found misprices and shared. when mners were contacted by the seller to say "it was advertised at the wrong, you will have to pay more, or we will cancel the order" posters have been up in arms, complaining about getting the item at the advertised price. or is that different because it costs less?

I am a diabetic and cannot eat too many carbs. Why can't I have a half portion of chips at a fish & chip shop even though I offer to pay full price? Why couldn't I have a kids' meal at Pizza Hut even though I wouldn't have eaten more than 2 slices of pizza? Angry

Lissie - it is not pre-plated so your arguement re the crisps make no sense, if it was pre-plated then it's totally different.

A customer does not want to pay more for a potato & cheese than for a potato with cheese & then beans on top. Just don't put the bloody beans on and charge the same price - what is so hard to understand?

Report
LissieLovettsDeliciousDuckPies · 14/10/2011 19:33

of course it does. would you take an individual pack of crisps up demanding at the equivalent price of a bag from a multipack? its sold as a different item.

the cheese and beans was on special offer. the cheese was not. cheese and beans without the offer would likely be £4.50ish.

If i am ever in this situation, I would ask for the jacket potato with cheese, and beans on the side

Digging, yep, that would be ok and the seller would have to honour that order.

A lot of interesting views.

Diggingintheribs - I did ask for the beans on the side but they would not do this. Couldnt believe their reaction to that suggestion.

Told some friends and they just said it was my fault for going in there in the first place!
