To be fair I suppose they had some justification and they were very civil. What is madame doing with a notebook and a camera? Has madame got any ID? And we will just run a quick check on that ID at the station....

I wasn't wearing my Fuck Tha Police pullover, either...

YANBU. They may well be "only doing thier jobs" but you don't actually have to give them your name, ID or any explanation for what you are doing. And if they would like to find any of that out they need to actually arrest you and they need to have reasonable suspicion that you are committing a criminal offence in order to do that. (Not that I would necessarily reccomend being awkward in this situation but still........)

It did occur to me that I probably would have been within my rights to say 'I am not doing anything wrong and I don't owe anyone an explantion' but that probably would have led to a little trip to the nick. I think it is actually the idea that I can just be stopped and asked for ID and checked out when I am not doing anything wrong that makes me feel the UK is a bit less of a free country than it ought to be.
