Blocks our satilite signal.
Dd is 11 months old, I am 24 weeks pregnant and suffering with an undiagnosed condition that currently comes under cfs until I have this baby and more tests can be done.

What am I going to do without cbeebies for 4 weeks?

I know there are more important things going on in the world, and I can cope missing a few tv programs for a few weeks but I NEED cbeebies to keep me sane :(

We don't get free view signal and only have a freesat box, annologe has already been turned off.

What can I do?

Yes, think so.

YANBU I'd be furious but I can be quite volatile when things inconvenience me. We have the same set up so my neighbour would be hearing all about it if I had no tv for a month. Pretty rude of him not to mention that he would be having work done if only to be polite.

Ring a satellite-fixer-upper-person for a quote then speak to your neighbour this evening and give him the two options of 1, getting the scaffolding moved or 2, paying for your satellite to be moved.

ragged · 12/10/2011 12:27

We don't have a satellite and we have cbeebies. Off of regular TV aerial. Confused

notso · 12/10/2011 12:30

Sorry you are suffering but your DD will get used to it.
We had no TV for three months it was hell for a week then we just found other stuff to do.

MrsTittleMouse · 12/10/2011 12:32

ragged - lots of areas have already switched to digital, so lots of people can't use a regular analogue ariel any more.

Don't forget that BBC2 shows Cbeebies in the morning too. :)

(Completely understand about the pregnancy and older child thing - my eldest watched very little TV until I was pregnant, and then Cbeebies was my lifeline)

Chandon · 12/10/2011 12:33

DVDs from the library

addictediam · 12/10/2011 12:34

Notso dd probably wont even notice, its just something i turn on when she gets bored and wants me during the 2 hours in the afternoon its a distraction. Without it I'd probably get 15-30 minutes. And would be a wreck by the time dh got home!

Firawla · 12/10/2011 12:36

i wouldnt accept from them that they cant move it for a month, or if they cant then they need to go and buy you a working freeview box or whatever you need to be able to watch tv. its not only 1 or 2 days but one month, they are taking the pee

ragged · 12/10/2011 12:39

But we are in an area that has switched over already... Confused.
I don't watch enough TV to care about the tech details, but I am sure that somehow there are ways to get Freeview without a satellite dish.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 12/10/2011 12:40

Do you have a standard aerial, if so you can get a digital tv box from asda for £20 then you would have it as reserve if anything happens in the future.

BlackCatinaWitchesHatonaBroom · 12/10/2011 12:40

addictediam Have you tried to turn on your tv/ sattelite again?????????
(for more info see my earlier post.)

JustinBoobie · 12/10/2011 12:48

My TV is a lifesaver in times of need... YANBU

Hope you get it sorted!!

coraltoes · 12/10/2011 12:52

This happened to me once. Teir builders moved my dish onto a spot where the signal worked. Then at the end of the work, put it back original place. Can't they do that for you?

addictediam · 12/10/2011 12:57

Yep its still not working. No aerial will pick up freeview in our area.

GladbagsAndYourHandrags · 12/10/2011 13:00

To all the people suggesting OP gets the dish moved- SHE HASN'T GOT A DISH!

(ahh, feel better now, thats been bugging me all the way through the thread)

Sounds like your neighbour is lovely and will get it sorted. If not I have an assortment of DVDs thats my DC have grown out of that I'd be happy to send you.

cheekeymonster · 12/10/2011 13:01

Charity shops (of which there are no shortage) are very good for DVD's and inexpensive.
Hope you get sorted, hacks me off when neighbour lets his trees go wild and blocks our signal and sky said they have put dish as high as it possibly go.

Andrewofgg · 12/10/2011 13:02

AIBU . . . to feel pissed off that I am having an extension which needs scaffolding and my neighbour is kicking off because it blocks the signal for her satellite stations?

Hulababy · 12/10/2011 13:05

Andrewofgg - then yes, yabu. You should offer to have the scaffolding rearranged or the satelitte aerial/dih moved temporarily for her. If either of these are not possible then offer some other alternative - perhaps a small gift of some DVDs for the little one and some chocolate for the mum. OK?

EsmeWeatherwax · 12/10/2011 13:08

Andrew, yes YABU, very.

SummerRain · 12/10/2011 13:09

Gladbags.....

"addictediam Wed 12-Oct-11 12:21:07
The houses are complicated, the party wall is only on the ground floor and only 3 metres. There is an odd building (used to be toilets back when the houses were built) that we have a party wall for. The dish is on the side of my house next to the building to be fair it is quiye low (was installed by previous owners) and its because the scaffolding come out so far that signal is affected."

GladbagsAndYourHandrags · 12/10/2011 13:14

Ooops BlushBlushBlush

Yes, best get the dish moved then....

(runs and hides having completely misunderstood the whole thing then)

Andrewofgg · 12/10/2011 13:17

Hulababy I entirely agree. And I hope that that is what I would do. Thank you for pushing me in the right direction, that's what I like about AIBU! :)

2BoysTooLoud · 12/10/2011 13:17

Hope you get it sorted op. My ds age 2 loves cbeebies and yes we rely on it a lot! Hell I would cry if we lost tv for a month. What the bloody hell would me and my DH talk about all evening. God I'm a saddo.....

addictediam · 12/10/2011 13:18

I do have a dish, but its not a sky dish its just freesat (so we can watch all the free channels) because we can't get freeview in this area.

Andrew I haven't kicked up a fuss I posted on here and rand my mum. When she gets home from work I will go and knock on her door and have a very friendly conversation with.her as all the information i have comes from the scaffolding guys.

OP posts:
Andrewofgg · 12/10/2011 13:21

AddictedIam I understand. But there's two sides to every neighbour story and I wanted to suggest the other. Hulababy has said what your neighbour should do - I hope it works out.

QuintessentialDead · 12/10/2011 13:25

We have survived 10 months without a tv.

The children watch dvds, and i player.

Hopefully you can get it fixed for your sanity, but it IS possible to work around it. Especially if you are the happy owner of a tv set (unlike us)
