If you hate having to have things on an airer and there is five of you in the house, a washer dryer just isn't going to solve the problem.

I can almost guarantee that you will still end up using airers. Unless you literally have it on all the time and you make washing become a way of life. And that would make it break sooner.

But, if you aren't under the illusion that you can bin your airer, it could be perfect for you. It will wash as well and as easily as the one you have does, and you will have the option of using a dryer for fluffy towels and things you don't have to iron if they have been tumbled.

AnnoyingOrange · 11/10/2011 22:26

they are better than not having a dryer at all, but not a patch on having separate appliances

I've had three really awful ones but my fourth - my second free replacement for the second one I bought - has been fine....

splashymcsplash · 11/10/2011 22:34

I have an aeg which cost around 650.

I think the posts her just highlight that it depends on how you use it whether it will suit you. I don't dry everything, don't really understand the need to. The dryer function is useful in winter when you don't want too many wet clothes hanging around, and when you can't be arsed to hang little things. Drying everything would take a long time! C

We've got a Zanussi (was the 2nd most expensive they do) and I love it. I use it to air things off the line that still feel a bit damp/cold in the evening and also give myself more room on the maidens in winter by bunging small, straightfoward things in there. Have had washer/dryers for the past 8 years due to small flats.

Also can't bear towels not done in the dryer - hate the crispy feel from the line/maiden!

Has anyone got/had a Miele?

Grockle · 11/10/2011 22:53

My Indeshit one was great. Only 2 of us (pre DC) but I loved it. I don't have one now but manage perfectly well without a dryer

sayithowitis · 11/10/2011 22:57

I have an Indesit. It is about five years old now and I have been extremely pleased with it. In the past I have had other makes and whilst they have all done the job, some have been more trouble than others. I would definitely have another Indesit when this one conks out ( I have insurance so any/all bills covered and they replace new for old when it is unrepairable). I hate having washing hanging around the house, much prefer to wash one full load each day, then split into two loads for drying in the machine. We are a family of four and I have had washer dryers for around 20 years now. I have always found that as long as you plan your washing, it is perfectly possible to keep on top of it, even in the depths of winter.

We used to have one, and it wasn't terrible by any means and it was handy to put it on a wash/dry cycle overnight for nappies and towels. But a dehumidifier with a lundry setting which we use under a big airer was a much better buy as we can dry loads at a time, including delicates and no crumpling

There is a lot of rubbish written here by people who either dont have them or have cheap crappy ones. I had one for years was fine, now getting a daewoo one thst has a nine kilo wash load and seven kilo dry.

lurkerspeaks · 12/10/2011 13:37

I've had two - both times in flats with no space for a seperate drier.

I tend not to use the dryer function all that often but when you need to use it you need to use it. My first one was a cheap Zanussi, my current one is a NEFF. Comparing them the Zanussi was better, but I got it new, the Neff came with the flat at 5years old and had been used exlusively by tenants so may have previously been abused.

wheredidiputit · 12/10/2011 14:06

I have one, but I don't like it.

I only realy use it to finish off my drying, after it been on the airer.

hophophippidtyhop · 12/10/2011 14:57

I have had two - an indesit which lasted ten years, and I've just replaced it with another indesit. I don't tumble everything, but I like to have the option of using it. I often wash in the afternoon, tumble for 30 mins, then leave it drying around the house overnight. It's then ready to put away first thing in the morning.
